From the weekend:
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago (2007) Never listened to this from front to back - wasn't very interested in it when it came out but started warming up to some tracks over the past year. We got our turntable hooked up finally and played this from my girlfriend's vinyl collection. Rex - 3 (1997) More vinyl from the lady's collection, never even heard of this band. After a little RYM research, I learned that the drummer is the same as June of 44's, and that he was also Codeine's and Mice Parade's drummer. This is good, slowcore I suppose. Ultimate Painting - Ultimate Painting (2014) Played this once over the weekend and again this morning. Good jangly/indie pop out of England, featuring one of the guys from Veronica Falls which I don't think I've ever listened to. I really enjoyed it during my second spin, and was reminded of bands like The Moles, The Feelies, and The Bats. Maybe they should have called themselves The Paintings. Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks - Enter the Slasher House (2014) I think it was during my trip to Europe last June that I first listened to this, and this is just my second listen. It's ok. Simon & Garfunkel - Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme (1966) Another from the lady's vinyl collection. It was her dad's, and she's been listening to this very record since she was 12. It's my favorite S&G album. June of 44 - Tropics and Meridians (1996) More girlfriend vinyl!

It was a joke, though I guess not a very good one - I was playing off the (perceived) ambiguity of the pronoun use and acting like I thought you meant the new Lupe Fiasco album was all Sinatra covers.
And Sidewinder, that June of 44 album is good stuff. I only listened to it for the first time recently (I think because you mentioned it in your top 10s journal?), but it's excellent. |

Yes, it's likely that I mentioned it there. Glad you like it. If you haven't heard any others yet, check out Four Great Points - I think we'll be spinning that one tonight.
