Spent some Christmas money on more records tonight...

Pig Destroyer—Mass & Volume
Two surprisingly doomy tracks from the Phantom Limb sessions put together as an EP that come off as a big departure from the band's usual grindcore style. I was honestly surprised by how incredibly good this is. They could have a whole separate career making sludgy, doomy music like this.

Features: Transparent green vinyl, access to digital download

Witch Mountain—Mobile of Angels
I've always had mixed feelings about this band. On the hand, I appreciate the uniqueness of having swaggering female vocals as the centerpiece of a doom band. On the other hand, sometimes she starts veering a little too close to Evanescence territory for my liking. That said, I do appreciate the fact that the vocals seem more integrated into the mix this time around, instead of sitting on top of it.

Features: Ok cover art. Boring gatefold photo of the band walking through the forest.

Electric Wizard—Time to Die
After the somewhat disappointing Black Masses, it's nice to hear another solid album from these guys. It's raw and dirty and heavy as hell, combining the best aspects of We Live and Witchcult Today. Very good stuff.

Features: Poster of the band members all lying in coffins. Nice cult-ish photo collage sleeves. Hilarious and awesome gatefold photo reminiscent of the movie River's Edge.

Let's see

Whitehouse - Birdseed
Marc Ribot Trio - Live at the Village Vanguard
Killer Mike - RAP Music
JJ DOOM - Keys to the Kuffs
John Zorn - The Alchemist
Schoenberg - Orchestral Pieces

Plus the first two sets of a Jazz group I saw at the local jazz bar.

Sleater - Kinney: No Cities To Love (2015)

Good noisey pop leaning punk music. I'm not really well versed in they're music, but so far so good.

Both are really good albums! I know the Viet Cong release let me down slightly but I think I expected more because Women were for sure one of the best Indie bands of the 00s.

I didn't have any expectations seeing as I don't really know Women all that well.

They're really great.

Yeah, Public Strain is awesome. And Machine, S-K are one of the greatest bands ever - you absolutely need to listen to, uh, everything else they've ever done.

So I've heard, I'm going to have to check them out, any suggestions on where to start?

 'Tis be my plan, any good places to start?

I think all their albums are at least good, but the debut isn't fantastic - I'd listen to it nonetheless though. Then all their other albums are awesome, but for me the peaks are Dig Me Out and the last two before the new one.

Lee Morgan - The Sidewinder
John Coltrane - Blue Train
BADBADNOTGOOD - III
Tool - Lateralus (Fibbonacci Sequence version)
BADBADNOTGOOD - BBNG2
Viet Cong - S/T
Sleater-Kinney - No CitiesTo Love
Elliott Smith - An Introduction To Elliott Smith
Donny Hathaway - Live At The Bitter End 1971

Lotta jazz today, and some new stuff for me.
