Ovens is basically more of the same of what he does with his solo career. There was some drama with his ex-bandmates or some **** and that's why he started recording under his own name, supposedly. Violent Change are more of a noisy/dissonant post-punk band. They're okay, I know people who are more into that kind of stuff that really dig them. They have a couple songs that flirt more with indie pop that I do like but as a whole they don't compare to TM or Ovens. His hardcore bands are supposed to be pretty good, too. Caged Animal is the only such project I'm aware of but I know there's a few others... kid's been around for a while now.

Sturgill Simpson, Metamodern Sounds of Country Music

I find that the older I get, the more and more I enjoy the music of my homeland- AKA, country music. Damn these Kentuckian roots. They get me to fall to stereotypes when I don't even want to.

That said, this particular country album is much more than the John Deere tractors, confederate flags, and whisky that color much of the genre. This dude is crooning about drug-induced cosmic philosophies and Gandhi, all while building up his more traditional twangy guitars with psychedelic sound effects and gentle strings. It's like all of the old time country stars moved to modern day Colorado and smoked a lot of weed. This is good ****. Will definitely be a repeat listen.
