Agaetis Byrjun is my favorite. I think their albums are different enough to maintain interest, but really this comes down to personal taste. Sigur Ros speaks to me -- and yet, I wouldn't listen to even two of their albums in a row.

Shpongle - Tales of the Inexpressible (2001)

So many good memories of this one. Just perfect for today.

I'm surprised people cannot listen to many albums from the same band in a row. When I discover a new band I usually work my way through their entire discography in a day or two. Also sometimes go 10+ hours listening to the same artist.

Maybe I'm just weird.

Yep. That'd be impossible for me.

Emerson, Lake and Palmer - Tarkus (1971)

Good stuff!

Beach House - Teen Dream (2010)

My kind of music. Dreamy!

^ Love that Beach House album.

Incoming favorite band praise

you were warned

The Microphones - Song Islands

I finally decided that today is the day to finish up The Microphones' discography. Boy, I missed a bunch of good stuff. I love the vocals Mirah contributed to The Microphones, and I was happy to see how much she was featured in this. Her voice is child-like in a very enjoyable unique way and it matches Phil's style perfectly. Solid album full of some more experimental stuff along with the standard beautiful lo-fi folky magic. Fun fact, 'The Antlers' are named after a song from this album. I guess it's only natural that one of my favorite bands drew inspiration from another one of my favorite bands. It was apparent to me in Uprooted when The Antlers was Peter Silberman's solo project that he was inspired by Phil.

The Microphones - It Was Hot, We Stayed In The Water

The only Microphones album left I haven't given a good listen to yet. After seeing the ratings and such I got really excited about listening to it. I question why I never did check it out, but now that I have I can confirm that I love it. Top album from this project and one that's definitely gonna grow on me in no time. I thought that I'd be sad finishing up the discography but there is such a large body of great work here and within his ongoing project Mount Eerie that I should be good for a few years at least. I'll be finishing up Mount Eerie (most likely without posting my thoughts) and waiting for his next release, Sauna. It comes out within my birthday month so that's really all I need for a happy birthday.

I've got a few Mount Eerie albums in my queue. Should be able to get to them after I work through "T".

He has a diverse body of work between his projects that might be hit or miss at first listen. I recommend either of these to get a good idea of what to expect from his stuff:

Mount Eerie - Dawn: Winter Journal
The Microphones - The Glow, Pt. 2

Those two are a couple of his more digestible albums. I like all of his various experiments and such but not all of his stuff is for everybody, just a forewarning.

Cheers for the recommendations!

Next up:

Katy Perry - Teenage Dream (2010)

I used to say she's one of my guilty pleasures, but I've since realized that music nerds don't have to apologize for their love of mainstream pop. Gotta say, though, that Radiohead has never struck me as makeout music...

Why are you apologizing? 1989 is one of the best albums I heard this year.

EDIT: the post I was responding to got deleted.
