Yob - Clearing the Path to Ascend So I was partway through the opening track and I was positive that Electric Wizard's "Time to Die" was much, much better than this. So I started reviewing it a bit in this thread. Then about 7 minutes into the first track I wasn't so sure. The vocals start off somewhat subpar to Electric Wizard (but let's be honest, if any metal band is put up to the standards of EW, it's an impossible leap to bound over), but they quickly get better. Throughout the album, the vocals get heavier, the guitars get more dreary, and my opinion of the album increases. It's definitely going to take a couple of listens because of how much I fucking love "Time To Die," but this may be one of my albums of the year.

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard - I'm in Your Mind Fuzz (2014) A seven-man rock band that makes some ridiculously good psychedelic rock. Public Enemy - It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back (1988) 26 years later, what's different? It's still black vs police, police vs black. Aesop Rock - Labor Days (2001) This is an amazing album, but, again, it doesn't touch me the way other genres do. I think I'm losing my connection to hip-hop. Just trying to be honest with myself and respect the music for what it is, not trying to make it mean something to me it can't. Anyway, as William Shatner said, "At my age, I need serenity". There were two standout moments for me on this album, though. First, on "No Regrets", when he says "I've never had a dream in my life Because a dream is what you wanna do but still haven't pursued" Yes. So true. Second, on "Daylight", when he says "Life's not a bitch. Life is a beautiful woman You only call her a bitch because she won't let you get that pussy" Yeah. Giraffage - Needs (2013) I love everything about this album because I dig electronica and dreampop so much. Brian Eno - Nerve Net (1992) Good but fails to move me. I'm not a robot. Last edited by Zhanteimi; 12-19-2014 at 12:01 AM. |

Shellac - Dude Incredible (2014) Shellac - Excellent Italian Greyhound (2007) First time listening to this one. The Skull Defekts - Dances in Dreams of the Known Unknown Quilt - Held in Splendor (2014) Purling Hiss - Weirdon (2014) Protomartyr - Under Color of Official Right (2014) Chad VanGaalen - Shrink Dust (2014) There are a few murky songs that have brought the experience down for me each time. But maybe I'm letting it cast too big of a shadow on the entire album. There's quality stuff to be found - it's just less varied than his last two so it's easy to feel just one mood from the whole thing, if that makes sense.
