Various Artists - Neon Meate Dream of a Octafish

Tributes to Captain Beefheart. Some good, some not so good, some ****ing fantastic (the Neon Meate Dream of a Octafish, Electricity, Wild Life, and Apes-Ma covers come to mind).

Volcano Choir - Repave (2013)

I've yet to come across something by Justin Vernon that I've disliked.

Have you heard Colin Stetson's "New History Warfare 3: To See New Light"? Vernon does a couple tracks with saxophonist Stetson on that album. I feel like Vernon kind of detracts from the mood of the album, but you may like what he does with Stetson's minimalism, being a fan already. Great album.

Never heard of it. I'll check it out.

So far, my exposure to Vernon has been Bon Iver, Volcano Choir, and his breathtakingly good collaboration with Anais Mitchell on her Hadestown.

Slint - Spiderland

This one was rec'd to me by somebody here in plug a few months ago at least. I've listened to it a few times and really fell in love with "Don, Aman."

Relistening to it again and it's all even better than I remember. Love that riff on Washer especially. The whole album is good. Thanks to whoever rec'd that to me.

Oneohtrix Point Never - Replica (2011)

I keep giving Lopatin a chance because I like experimental sounds, but his total lack of cohesion just makes him nothing more than a curiosity for me. I can't just put him on the home speaker system and listen to him for enjoyment.

These guys are absolutely legendary in my hometown (Louisville for those of you unaware). To this day, their spirit is felt in the local scene, and they still have a very large following. They reformed this year to do a show for Louisville's largest music festival, and I heard they killed it. I didn't get to see them live, but I wish I could've.

Had this album on loop all week. A lot of fun with two fantastic rappers that go incredibly well together.

Fantastic album. Have you heard "Yasiin Gaye"? A mashup of Mos and Marvin. Includes a few verses from that Blackstar album.
