Even with modern mainstream pop people here only really listen to the type deemed acceptable by others almost as if they have to justify it to themselves that it's worthwhile listening to. Heaven help you listen to something unfashionable to like, that's passed off as a 'guilty pleasure'.

Agreed. This is a music forum, seems odd that people will make fun of others based on what they listen to. Seems rather counter productive. Sure I mess with people on what they listen to, but I also see it as an opportunity to try something music wise that I may not have heard once before. God forbid I listen to Linkin Park or Progressive Metal.

I'm actually listening to Devil Without A Cause right now and the first track was decent. Onto "Cowboy" now, and it's bad good. Or good bad. Whatever.

If I can't pat myself on the back for my music taste than what's the point of musicbanter?

I think so long as you have listened to enough of the artist you are ragging on, it's fine. But if you're looking down on them based on a few tracks and their rep, it can be pretty snobbish.

I like Kid Rock. By all accounts he's a good guy who really gives back to his community. I don't dig all of his stuff but he's got a lot that I do like.

Thought he killed this. Very cool interpretation IMO.

I will not be shamed for hating Kid Rock and spreading my hate of Kid Rock. :finger:

I encourage stepping out of one's comfort zone. Doesn't mean I can't poke fun of them for it. :beer:

Electric Wizard - Time to Die (2014)
Perhaps I just wasn't in the right mood for this when I was listening to it but it failed to register with me. It's cut from much of the same cloth as previous album Black Masses and you are guaranteed to know what the main themes are going to be - the occult, weed and some more occult. Despite some decent riffs it gets a bit tiring after a while to be honest and the album also seems far too long and ponderous.

I haven't given it a second listen yet but first impressions were good. Personally I felt like it was an Electric Wizard somewhat refocused, the dynamic shifted back a little, and that the album indefinitely benefited from the return of Mark Greening (before he was sacked and left again). I felt that with the exception of Witchcult Today it was their best since Let Us Prey or possibly even Dopethrone.

That said, it wont fully sink in until I listen to it a few more times.

AT THE GATES - AT WAR WITH REALITY (2014)

I'm hoping that with repeated listens I don't find my enjoyment of this record to be based mostly on nostalgia or really wanting to like it due to the 19-year hiatus, but initial reaction to this is that I'm pretty ****ing glad At The Gates are back!

I kept seeing this pop up, and I never really gave Grouper a proper listen. She reminds me of Jessica Bailiff & FSA in an aesthetic sense. I love the production, the little creaks of the piano bench, the croaking frogs, ect. One thing I can say for certain is that Liz Harris has an amazing ear for melody, and her voice is just really soothing, really nice and warm with a whispy like quality.

Downloaded yesterday, and just ordered on wax. Suck my dick, RIAA.

Really ****ing good free jazz, best one I've heard from 2014 yet. It combines electronic and acoustic improvisation quite well and has a lot of variety.

EDIT: oh, I kind of forgot about Zorn's "Valentine's Day". This is a close second.
