Grouper - Ruins (2014)
This just might be the best thing Liz Harris has ever recorded. It's quite different in texture to her previous material, mostly just stark piano, her voice and ambient background noises such as rainfall. However the unmistakable atmosphere and depressive nature of her music remains the same.

Time Distort Nine by Combat Astronomy

It's a behemoth. Nearly two hours long and the best way I can describe it so far is jazz-tinged drone (with metal in there sometimes too??!!). Needless to say im in. Frown, you should take a peak at this.

The Hotelier - Home, Like NoPlace Is There

I've been meaning to listen to this for a long time and I finally got around to it. Met all my expectations and much more.

And it's pretty ****ing fantastic. This is a step up from Kundalini Apocalypse, but they also went in an entirely different direction, focusing more on the electronic and jazz element than the metal side. I think this may be my favourite of theirs so far.

Kokomo Arnold, Original Kokomo Blues 1934 - 1938

Good ol' finger picked folk blues from one of the kings of Chicago blues. I mean, OLD Chicago blues. None of that fancy eel-eck-trick ****. Anyway, it's nice and fast, which is a good change of pace (ha!) from the typical slow-and-sad fare, and he's got a cool picking style. I love old folk blues records, but sometimes if you listen for a prolonged period of time it can all run together because almost every song is so gosh durn similar... Kokomo has enough variation, and he's bouncy enough that your mind doesn't turn off when the music turns on. I highly recommend it.

Electric Wizard - Time to Die (2014)
Perhaps I just wasn't in the right mood for this when I was listening to it but it failed to register with me. It's cut from much of the same cloth as previous album Black Masses and you are guaranteed to know what the main themes are going to be - the occult, weed and some more occult. Despite some decent riffs it gets a bit tiring after a while to be honest and the album also seems far too long and ponderous.

I downloaded a torrent which contained the original albums of all the tracks used in the film.

DOOM - Born Like This

One of the few DOOM albums I am not completely familiar with.

...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead - IX (2014)
I downloaded the special edition with 2 bonus tracks and the long "Tao of the Dead III" on a second disc. It's pretty decent, but it does sound a bit muddy. I'd like it to be a bit more punchy and clear - says the guy who prefers their first two albums. But at this point in their career, it's a pretty fair request. Would I find it overproduced if it was more punchy and clear? Depends on the tunes I guess. "Lie Without a Liar" has a bit of an 80s arena rock sounding chorus I'm not sure how I feel about. So perhaps, if it had cleaner production maybe it would be too close to some of those current mainstream arena rock bands I dislike. Anyway I'm not sure I like this any better than their last few. Time will tell.

Country Teasers - The Empire Strikes Back (2006)
Picked this garage/cowpunk album off the RYM 2006 charts, hadn't heard of teh band before. I like it, sounds like it's from the 80s. I hear a lot of The Fall actually, perhaps due to the Scottish accent and post-punk influence.
