Who knew Smashmouth would go well with Modest Mouse?

New Slipknot and new Thurston Moore. Trying to decide if I can't live without them and whether I should hunt down the vinyl tomorrow. The new Slipknot record sounds very melodic and almost (gasp!) mainstream, but with enough time changes and pummeling to keep it interesting. New Thurston sounds a lot like 'Psychic Hearts' type of pop but with longer jam interludes built in. Still not as good as a new SYR record would be but it will have to do. At least it's better than that Chelsea Light Whatever record.

Pretty good female-fronted midwest emo. It's nothing spectacular IMO, but it's definitely still enjoyable. System of a Down - Mezmerize + Hypnotize Listened to both of these because I was bored and remembered that I had the latter sitting in my library for a year or so. They have their highlights IMO, but some really uninteresting tracks (*coughOldSchoolHollywoodandLonelyDaycough*) bring them down quite a bit. I'll probably give these albums another shot at some point in the future, but it will probably be a while before I do that. Feel It All Around is a ****ing amazing track. The rest of this EP unfortunately doesn't reach those heights, but is still pretty good overall. I must listen to this. Last edited by Chrysalis; 10-20-2014 at 10:39 PM. |

Beck-Sea Change
I was always a bit lukewarm with Beck when it came to alot of his work. While I always knew he was a talented musician/artist, albums like Odelay and Guero always sort of rubbed me the wrong way, as it felt that while he had some cool ideas that they felt a bit flimsy or gimmicky in execution. That being said, I absolutely LOVED this album. I loved his singing, the small details in the production and just the dreamy and calming feel that this gave you from beginning to end. Overall I felt that it was more cohesive than his other work, but I still found enough changes in tone to really enjoy them too. If anything it's revitalized my interest in his other albums, which I relistened to and found that I liked them more than I thought. Funny how a trip back to the past can change perspective.

FKA Twigs - LP1 Been on repeat all day. I love this chicks voice, not to mention these beats, holy cow. It just hit me this morning how much replay value it actually contains.

Went through the entire discographies of Death Grips, The Tallest Man On Earth, Nick Drake and CHVRCHES today. Liked everything I heard. The Tallest Man On Earth is just so beautiful. Checking out The Oh Hellos next.

Gonna include yesterday because I am a rule breaker and nobody would even know.
The Beta Band - Live At The Shepherd's Bush Empire One of my favourite bands who made some pretty accessible weirdo indie music in my opinion. The Builders And The Butchers - Western Medicine One of my favourite albums from last year. Great Alt-Country/Americana. Kylie Minogue - Fever One of the best Pop albums of all time. The singles are amazing and the rest is pretty good too. LIZ - Just Like You Talked about this album loads on here, but it's truly awesome. I hadn't heard anything like it before giving it a listen. Future Pop masterwork. The White Panda - Barely Legal Even though this mashup album is kinda losing it's value for me now, I still throw it on regularly for whatever reason. Some of the track choices are great. LIZ - Tour CD Bought this off the Mad Decent site and it's got some great songs on it. Sam Smith - In The Lonely Hour Some boring stuff on here, but I am in love with his voice. He's got such a likable personality too. Jaylib - Champion Sound Complete Set Two of the best bringing it.

Listened to an assortment of folk related stuff. All quite interesting. Just Another Diamond Day was one of my favorite... gonna have to revisit her discography and that album for sure.
