Blasted Canyons - #1 Shoegaze inspired garage rock with some hints of Devo in there. Reminds me of Ty Segall at points. Very enjoyable. I could see this being a really fun show to go to, too bad these guys broke up.

Hank Williams III—Ghost to a Ghost/Gutter Town I've been meaning to check out Hank III since I first read about him sometime in the late 90s. So I started with his crazy ass Cattle Callin' album and have now moved on to this, which is actually country unlike the other album. Country, yes, but country made by a person who clearly spent a lot of his formative years listening to the likes of Butthole Surfers, Ministry and Jesus Lizard. It has fiddle and banjo and whatnot but everything seems aggressive, overdriven and a bit off-kilter. I'm digging it so far. My only concern is how freaking long this is—30 tracks, well over two hours of music. |

U2—Songs of Innocence Like everyone else with an iTunes account, I got this album for free the other day as part of Apple's big media blitz thing. I finally got around to listening to some of it last night and it's exactly what I assumed it would be like. It's a perfectly listenable U2 album that is also completely forgettable. It's been over two decades since I had any interest in these guys and this album is a good example why. It's just so innocuous. It's a group of people doing the same job they've been doing for 35 years, a job they're so adept at that they can do it in their sleep. And this really sounds sounds like they're asleep. |

Just bought a Hollies greatest hits album at my local used CD store. Harmonies are fantastic. Yes, they were put together to capitalize on the Beatles' success, but they have a different sound. Loving it. Yeah, it's just pop music, but hey, it's pretty awesome.
