I thought us Brits only made albums that were stoic, solemn, heartfelt, melancholic or art school bent? We actually do fun now! It's Mike Patton meets Melt Banana in a 10 year olds fruity loops first session. Best thing I have heard in ages. Castrovalva - You're not in hell, you're in purgatory my friend.

Two albums you guys probably know...
Built to Spill: Ultimate Alternative Wavers (1993) This honestly isn't bad - I was expecting something a lot more like There's Nothing Wrong with Love, but instead it sounds more like Perfect From Now On and Keep it Like a Secret, albeit with worse songwriting and grungier guitar. It pales in comparison to those two albums - they are classics and it is decidedly not - but it's still got some pretty good songs ("Shameful Dread" in particular is awesome) and it's interesting to hear what Built to Spill sounded like when they were still sort of trying to sound like other bands. New Bomb Turks: !!Destroy-Oh-Boy!! (1993) This is pretty killer. Great punk album. |

Merchandise - After the End (2014) This is a very underwhelming album to listen to. A few songs at the start of the album, such as Enemy, are enjoyable enough but then the album slides into unremarkable, bland indie rock. It's the first album for the band on 4AD and they sound like they're aiming for something bigger, but they really do need some good songs first. Sólstafir – Ótta (2014) The only other album I've heard from this band is Köld, which is very enjoyable. Their new album is nearly just as good. If you're looking for some good post-metal with passionate vocals you can't go wrong with this. I do admit that their vocals can be a bit OTT at times but it doesn't detract from how good the music is. I really like the album cover too, it's very atmospheric and suits the music.
