The first track is awesome, with a great riff. Really not fan of the rest of it though.
I've heard nothing but positive things from their next album, so I guess I'll just say I didn't like this chapter and move on to their next album.

Mastodon - Once More Around the Sun

Listened to this in hopes that it would be a step up from The Hunter, which I wasn't huge on. Three tracks in and I'm having the same issue with it as The Hunter: the vocals. This one is definitely a step up in a sense but it lies a good flight of stairs below Remission, Leviathan, and Blood Mountain as well as Crack the Skye to a slightly lesser extent. It does have a heavier prog element which I like, and the instrumental interludes range from good to great.

I may get a little more used to the vocals after a few listens but they just seem so standard for Mastodon and I like them better when they're pushing the envelope in a way.

^ It's definitely a softer record in some respects, but I'd argue its just as inventive as Blood Mountain was. Apples to oranges maybe, but they've never cut a song as catchy as 'The Motherload' before, so if that's not a step forward I don't know what is.

As for myself-

Mahogany Rush - Strange Universe (1975)

Killer-sounding mid 70's space rock record: kind of like a Robin Trower outing with dubbier production and a Rush fetish.

Uriah Heep - Abominog (1982)

I keep expecting to see this little masterpiece pop up in a post by Unknown Soldier for his journal, lol: top-notch AOR/NWOBHM hybrid from a band many had written off by the early 80's, and I've had a lot of fun exploring their discography beyond the well-trod 70's classics.

Brian Eno & Karl Hyde - High Life
This is gorgeous. Strikes me as the best thing Eno has done in over a decade.

Not the biggest Eno fan I have to admit. Much prefer his producing but an album with Karl Hyde is definitely up my street.

I love a bit of Eno, This is their second album together but much better than the first!

Ever checked out Underworld? Everyone knows Born Slippy from Trainspotting but that is not really what they are all about at all. One of my favourite bands. The first 2 tracks alone on Second Toughest in the Infants are enough to convert newcomers.

Yeah man! Relatively new to them but heard the track 'Rez' on a compilation not long ago and grabbed a couple of albums, loved what I've heard so far! Don't have that one you mentioned yet so it'll be next on my list :)

Your Mercury by Teeth of the Sea

this is very good stuff. A balanced mix of electronic and psychedelic with a dash of stoner and probably drone. It's hypnotic.

Antemasque - Antemasque

This is pretty great so far

I was on vacation for a while, didn't realize the release was fast approaching! I suppose since I purchased the first 4 songs on Bandcamp I'll wait for the email next week telling me the rest is available.
