I should probably give it a second chance. I love Talking Heads and don't really think any of their material is awful, it's just my least favorite of their albums.

Opalestial by Sleeping Peonies and Clouds Collide This is very strange. Both of these bands belonged to the record compant Khrysanthoney, which was branded as "black metal with sugar" run by some guy in Scandanavia I think. They had a bunch of releases scheduled for later this year and he was pumping it up for the past few months, but then for some reason he just shut the whole thing down a couple weeks ago. Like one day he was promoting this album and another one, the next everything was scrapped. So strange. And to top it off a few days after he closed the company, he apparently died. Just a very weird and sad series of events. I quite liked what they were doing. Anyway, Clouds Collide and Sleeping Peonies had a split album in the works before all this insanity and decided to just self release it digitally rather than let it die. And im glad. Ive quite enjoyed SP's dream pop with a hint of black metal style and although I wasnt as sold on Clouds Collide's album from last year, from what I heard from this one itll be great. Also both parts of this album are available for free which is rad. From how it sounds to me so far it's more dream pop than anything and that is a-ok with me. |

The Daisy Chain - Straight or Lame (1967) Original mono recording of the debut and only album by this California pop/rock group. Mostly pop with some rock and mild psych added to the mix. Not nearly as musically or vocally interesting as comparable 60's girl groups like The Shangri-Las. 5/10 |

A-Plus - Think Tank (2014) This is an instrumental (with vocal cuts) Hip Hop/EDM album by A-Plus, a member of Souls of Mischief. First two tracks were pretty good. |

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Show Your Bones i promised William the Bloody i would get this and give it a spin....i have to say...he and hate paper doll are spot on with this one....it seems to me to be a bit more texture and much more thought out than their first album....which i'm also thinking a may want to re-visit http://cdn.stereogum.com/files/2014/...e1-300x300.png Woven Hand - Refractory Obdurate it would seem to me that David Eugene is continuing down the path he turned onto with 2012s Laughing Stock...a.s always real Wrath of God type stuff going on....and at the same time some of the most beautiful and creepy rock music i've heard...and intermixed with usual Appalachian folk vibe....it'll be hard to knock this one out a "top 10" list http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...YL._SY300_.jpg Baxter Stockman - Punter debut album from the noise/sludge trio hailing from Helsinki, Finland....this is a nasty piece of work that would be happy next to your Rapeman and Scratch Acid albums...a great soundtrack for heavy drinking and beating yourself bloody http://popstache.com/wp-content/uplo...er-300x300.jpg Big Troubles - Romantic Comedy i hung out with an old friend last night....and after two hours of Devo videos....we decided to basically plug....just nort in that site....he played these guys and although i can't figure out what song he played...i really liked...grabbed this album first...and i'm loving it's simplicity....reminds me a lot of The Ocean Blue http://www.brooklynvegan.com/img/as/...-9-dissent.jpg The Cutthroats 9 - Dissent this topped my most anticipated list the second i heard about it....this is the fist output from The Cutthroats 9 since their 2002 5 star EP "Anger Management"....this does not disappoint at all...reminiscent of Unsane...probably due to being front by Chris Spencer....this a 7 track bluesy assault of unadulterated noise rock fury....also just love the album cover http://s3.amazonaws.com/quietus_prod...1315826680.jpg The Drums - Portamento another band that Neil played for me last night....and i'm about half way right now through this album....i have to say that i'm a bit surprised at how much i really like this....great, fun indie pop with a bit of classic 80s synth mixed in it.....kind of reminds me of the first Interpol album....but different https://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/3e021dc43a...dd/3864741.jpg Hands Up Who Wants to Die - Buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo thought out and well played noise rock from Dublin, Ireland....almost a mix of Jesus Lizard with math giants Faraquet....but really going off at times.....this album was recorded in a WWII bomb shelter in Germany...and it almost has that exact feel....a must to check out if you like noise rock...esp the AmRep offerings...looks they have a new album coming out later this year....something else to look forward to http://www.musicomh.com/wp-content/u...wn-300x300.jpg Skull Defekts - Dances in Dreams of the Known Unknown thought i'd grab this as Sidewinder made them sound interesting...what he forgot to mention is fucking incredible this album is....and yeah it's amazing that a band this good with so many albums....usually three a year....and this is the first i've heard of them...so as far as i can tell Skull Defekts is a post hardcore noise group from Sweden who often feature Daniel Higgs(Lungfish) on vocals....and that this album is a collaboration of just that....so at that this is what Faust would sound like if it was fronted by Steve Albini....this is a very dark and moody album...but at the same rocks real good....thanks Sidewinder for posting....could be a new obsession...they certainly have a discography large enough to last me a while |

Original Motion Picture Soundtrack "Coffy" - Roy Ayers (1973) Another one of my favorite soundtracks to another one of my favorite films. It stands right up there with "Shaft", "Truck Turner", and "Super Fly" as far as the vocal and musical arrangements. A great soul/funk/jazz album from Roy Ayers, which holds up very well on its own apart from the film. Roy Ayers - Coffy Soundtrack (Full LP) 1973 - YouTube |

Oddly enough, just last week I got a copy of the movie featured on the cover of that album. "T.N.T. Jackson" a female karate action hero, out for revenge against a heroin syndicate. Not quite as good as some of the best known films from the genre, and the fight scenes were laughably cartoonish, but it has its moments. |

Obsidian Kingdom - Mantiis. TBH I just wanted to listen because of that great cover. Just so happens it's a damn good album too. A proggy, atmospheric and melancholic sound with a splash of Black Metal and even a bit of Jazz. Very very good AND you can get the tracks free on last fm too. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/i...3tXC02TCMocbsQ This time I wanted to listen just because of that band name! It's German, they sing about drinking beer and it's no frills Metal with a punky vibe. Perfect for driving too and good fun. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/i...JqCxQgAJoyzWli It's like Post Rock but Electronic! So the songs build to crescendos and make you feel warm and fuzzy inside (if you like that sort of thing). |
