Sharon Van Etten - Are We There Blown away by this. Amazing album artwork too. |

The Feelies - Crazy Rhythms (1980) First time playing this one, it's been on my to-do list for quite some time. Impressed! Need to spin it again this week. http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/9965c9026f7...76/2185026.jpg Meat Puppets - Up on the Sun (1995) I enjoy this one as much as II. It may not contain their best songs (those are on II), but it's just as consistent and the mood is upbeat and fun. http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/c7fcf2b3e8a...b5/5120904.jpg The Skull Defekts - Dances in Dreams of the Known Unknown Pretty interesting experimental/post-punk stuff from Sweden that brings to mind These New Puritans (first two releases) and Liars. Released on Thrill Jockey - on whose site I just learned that the band added Lungfish vocalist Daniel Higgs around 2011. Their RYM discography is huge, yet only dates back 9 years. not sure what to make of it all though, as many entries don't have track lists and some appear short. I wonder if the long album list doesn't also include demos and EPs. http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/d34b04bb8b9...bc/2327869.jpg Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy (1985) I don't think I will ever get used to the noisy/screechy production of this album. Does the remaster sound any better? I wonder if even in 1985 this didn't hurt people's ears. I know it's noise pop so it's intentional to an extent, but it hurts. I could like this a lot more if it didn't sound so poorly recorded. Still pretty awesome. Also every time I listen to this I'm reminded of how much of an influence this must have been on Hilt's Journey to the Center of the Bowl (1991). It's like an industrial version of this album. I loved it before I even know about this album, and I always described it as industrial death rock with a strange 50s greaser vibe. http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/80d7662b7e5...22/1328231.jpg Talking Heads - Little Creatures (1985) I thought I had listened to this one before, but I guess not - haven't listened to anything post-Speaking In Tongues until now. I found it pretty weak overall, certainly the weakest at this point in their discography. http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/9ad4563fb76...9e/1450146.jpg Dead Kennedys - Frankenchrist (1985) First time listening to this one. Back in the day all I had was Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death on vinyl, so I never bothered with the actual albums. Over the past month or so I've been working through them, though I've only listened to each once. One thing I'm noticing with this one is how tinny it sounds compared to the last two. |

WAT - Laibach My second time venturing into Laibach. Have to say I didn't like this as much as their cover album Let It Be, but the track Anti-Semitism really caught me in the end. Need to give this another listen. Edit: google censorship strikes again, the pic was too sexy (or weird) Torture Garden - Naked City Expected it to be great and got great. Then again, it's John Zorn so... |
Bombay Bicycle Club - so long see you tomorrow album is my latest album

So many good albums! I love The Feelies and JAMC. Agreed on Little Creatures too, I still like it better than Naked but only by a slim margin. |
