Panopticon—Kentucky
Got this after seeing some positive comments around here about it. I'm enjoying it so far and really dig the originality of the concept. I think my only gripe is the occasional 80s guitar tone that feels kind of at odds with the overall loose and dirty mood of the album. I was amazed to find out that this is all one guy though.

I may be confused about what you mean by 80s guitar tone but I think I understand. I recently got the Vestiges/Panopticon split and some of the Panopticon guitar parts sound like they could have been made by The Cure in the 80s. I like that though.

Yeah, as usual the screaming vocal put me off but you know, I steeled myself and listened kind of outside the vocal and discovered I can really enjoy this album. Talk about meshing styles! Really great. Love the interviews about the coalminers' strikes and so on. Real Americana with a different twist. I didn't think I'd like this but I'm liking it more and more as I listen to it.

These guys are newish to me as of the last few weeks, really great stuff. There's a lot of Black Sabbath-influenced music but I'd daresay they carry the new Sabbath torch. Excellent stuff.

No, there was nothing in the guitar that reminded me of the Cure. It was more of an 80s metal sound.

The 20/20 Experience - Justin Timberlake

You know, I haven't given pop a fair go. I'm not the type of music fan who worries about how overproduced music is, or how marketed. Really could care less. But if it's pop, I expect it to be somewhat catchy. I decided to give Justin Timberlake a run through since I followed his career during adolescence. This is the only album I haven't listened to.

During my run through I've seemed to have lost my grip with his earlier stuff (apart from Rock Your Body since it's pretty funky). Maybe it's the flat Timbaland produced pop. Who knows. This album however really surprised me. It's far better than his last two. I've always thought funkier tunes would suit Justin much better and this album delivered for the most part. It's brighter, more involved, and a really different turn. I'm glad he's going in the direction I hoped he would.

Gotta say I dig Blue Ocean Floor too.
