SEASFIRE - WE WILL WAKE (EP) (2012)

Debut EP from melancholic, electronic indie band Seasfire. Influenced by Jeff Buckley, Echo & The Bunnymen and Burial and sound just like you would expect a band with electronic and downtempo influences from Bristol to sound like.

-Reissue of private press obscurity, described as countrydelic, a mix of Waylon Jennings and Funkadelic.

This sounds like it will be absolutely awful, or fun as hell. How do you like it? You have great taste in music, so I'll trust you.

I like it though I don't think the "countrydelic" description is completely accurate. Chance Martin sings with a very deep baritone voice. There's definitely a funky edge to many of the songs which are helped by some soulful female background singers. But there's also a loner psych thing going on here both musically & lyrically. At times I'm reminded of the Southern swamp funk of Tony Joe White and at other times of the psychedelic Americana sounds of Green On Red or Giant Sand. It's not an album for everyone, and I wish it had been more funky throughout.

Hmmm. Sounds interesting, if odd. I'll give it a listen.

Anyway, currently on the last song of this album.

Sodom Agent Orange

Honestly, what is there to say about this? It's just some very fast, fun old school thrash. It's from 1981, and sounds exactly like that time period in every way. It's not exactly something that you will want to write an essay on, but its job is to make you headbang, and it does its job very well.

BRETON - OTHER PEOPLES PROBLEMS (2012)
London math-rock, indie-electronica bands first full length record, after a handful of EPs and remixes, including a remix for Tricky. Pretty decent stuff.

DAUGHTER - IF YOU LEAVE (2013)
Soft, gentle, dark folk & chamber pop band from Londons debut full length record getting a bit of exposure here from the British press and media. Currently on a tour of the US. I quite liked this. It's quite simple, maybe a little too simple and minimal at times, but nice, tender, poppy and at times dreamy melodies.

I picked this up recently after hearing a couple tracks and reading musicOHM's glowing review. You are spot on in your write-up. I'm also finding it addictive in a good earworm way!

2 Albums of Manu Militari

-Crime D'Honeur
-Voix De Fait

I have not listened to it alot for now but it seem interesting in some song in particular. I think it is Gangster Style Rap talking about a hard and criminal reality of a antisocial behavior lifestyle.

The language seem to be something like a regional ''broken'' french.

I'm giving this one more go. If I don't like it, fuck it, I'll never try again. If I do though, we'll then yay me.

I love this album to death. Can anyone rec similar bands? It's a sound I've sort of found occasionally (Lanterns on the Lake's "Gracious Tide, Take Me Home" is quite similar), but I definitely am not satisfied with how little I have!

A good album full of exciting power pop anthems, tearjerkers and crossovers of those.
