What is it dislike about death metal? If you can get past vocals, then it may still be worth a try. That album is far from brutal.

The vocals are what's keeping me from liking death metal. I can't get past it.

I felt the same way long, long, long ago. Then I realized that the vocals are by far the least important thing in most death metal. They're basically the equivalent of atmospheric keyboard washes.

Recent CD purchases:

^ First heard Efisio Melis playing the launeddas, a Sardinian pipe instrument, on the excellent Roots of Drone compilation (above), which led to this purchase. Though it might be grating for some, I love the sound of this instrument, which is somewhat like a Sardinian bagpipe - without the bags. :)

No I've not gone mental.
This has her Bond theme and her cover of Man Who Sold The World (Which is the best version IMO) on it.
I think Marc Bolan played guitar on it too but I may be thinking of someone else.

I have some Def Leppard to go through. I found some cds that a friend of mines didn't care that I take because he was just going to throw them out anyways.

Camera Obscura - Desire Lines (2013)
I'm a bit disappointed by this despite having high hopes. The album seems flat, plodding and lacks the immediate stand-out tunes of their past albums. However with their previous albums some of my favourite songs emerged after multiple listens so a few more spins might reveal more. I do like that they did away with the string and brass sections and stripped the sound back to the core a bit, I just wish they could have made the most of it.

These New Puritans - Field of Reeds (2013)
I was unimpressed my their previous album Hidden but this is far more enjoyable. From what I remember of Hidden it was more rhythm-focused and got slightly under my skin. This album feels far more relaxed, free-flowing and far more interesting. Some of the sparse, loose drumming and gentle, sweeping synths remind me of later-era Talk Talk but at the same time something a bit different. Seems like a good album to chill to on a lazy summer evening.

A compilation of quality Alternative Pop that Pedestrian may dig for starters. Found a few gems on the album already.
