^ Added that to my Spotify queue about an hour ago. I'll let you know if I like it.

So a few months ago I got this box of 20 classic soul albums in little replica sleeves, and this week I found a similarly themed blues box with 25 albums in it.....

Killing Joke - Hosannas From The Basement of Hell (2006)

Easily KJ's heaviest, darkest, and most abrasive album which really says a lot for the band considering their mid '80's material. Apparently it was recorded in a dark basement of the recording studio in the Czech Republic and used a lot of old '70's recording equipment to get this nice analog sound. I've also read that the band tried to do as much as they could in just one take, and any mistakes were just incorporated into the song. I probably wouldn't recommend this one to new listeners, unless you're looking for something pulsating and heavy, in which case have at it you mad bastard.

Gone off blues personally. Never a huge fan but yeah, not my thing at the moment.

Foxygen - Take the Kids Off Broadway (2011)
This is heavily influenced by early David Bowie, but I'm enjoying it. I thought I heard a hint of T. Rex in the first song and a bit of Rolling Stones later on, but it's predominantly Bowie style. The 10-minute "Teenage Alien Blues" does reveal more hints of the other two artists though. It seems to have been independently released in October 2011 and then re-released by Jagjaguwar in July 2012, so it's showing up on some Best of 2012 lists.

So yeah, this is good. You can hear all of the influences but it still feels fresh.

Agreed...it'll stay in rotation and I look forward to their new release at the end of the month.
