Gojira - L'enfant Sauvage (2012)

I've always liked Gojira's past works so I don't know why it took me so long to actually grab this album considering it came out in June. Either way I hope it's as good as I've heard, or at least better than some of the other disappointments I've heard this year.

Although I haven't heard any of their other work, so I can't compare it to any of their other accomplishments, I thought it was a fantastic proggy death metal album. Maybe not mindblowingly good, but a very enjoyable headbanger.

I think I was in the minority that just couldn't completely get into From Mars to Sirius, but thats the only album of theirs I've heard. I should check that and the rest of their discography out sometime really.

^ That's the only album i've heard as well. I didn't think much of it, nor was I really interested in hearing any of their other albums.

Demonic Death Judge - Skygods (2012)

Three albums in as many years, I just hope this one isn't as directionless as last years' The Descent. In any case I'm pretty much guaranteed a heavy stoner/sludge metal album so I'm happy.

I don't usually go for flavour of the month artists and F and TM have been getting rave reviews for a while now so anything that the great unwashed accept is usually anathema to me but this is a really uplifting album. Great stuff.

As for the recent Gojira chat, I just post this and gain more fans:

and then this. I like a band that throws in a few curveballs:

Solid choices!

I really enjoyed the album. I mean Ki was pretty much on the money when he said it wasn't mindblowing, but a solid release is a solid release. Not everybody needs to reinvent the wheel with each album.

The covers of The Stooges Dirt & Martina Topley Bird's Too Tough To Die convinced me I should probably check this out.

You won't be disappointed, it's really good. Their cover of "Accordion" by Madvillain is pretty great, too.
