Hidden Orchestra, Archipelago. This is a sort of orchestrated electronic jazz album. Kind of. Sort of. It's hard to describe. The band is made up of two percussionists, Tim Lane and Jamie Graham (using both acoustic and electronic drums), violinist and pianist Poppy Ackroyd, and band leader Joe Acheson on bass and electronics. The band is supplemented by a wide variety of samples, field recordings, and guest artists. It's seriously, seriously good. I'm only halfway through and I can tell it's going to be in my top ten albums of the year.

A huge 87 song compilation featuring all sorts of Modern Classical, Ambient, and Experimental artists. 100% of the proceeds go towards Hurricane Sandy relief. |

Floating Points - Shadows
A deep-house/min-techno EP (though it's almost forty minutes, so...) from last year that scratches the study itch just right. It comes from a classically-trained PhD candidate in some impressive science or another, taking Flying Lotus-esque sounds and stripping them down quite a bit. Yeeeeee |

Tim Hecker & Daniel Lopatin - Instrumental Tourist (2012) Loved Hecker's Ravedeath 1972 album from last year so I'm willing to try anything with his name on it, even if it is getting lukewarm reviews, although most of them seem to be aimed at Daniel Lopatin, whoever he is. |

No problem. I also recommend their first album, Night Walks.

Judas Priest - Jagulator
I'm listening to their whole discography, and I love their sound with The Ripper. I can't wait to hear the next album - Demolition. Of course it isn't better than their style in the late 70s, but I like it more than their style in the 80s.

Blonde Redhead - Misery Is a Butterfly (2004) Just listened for the first time via Spotify. Quite good, I should have listened sooner. I always meant to listen to more of their stuff but I felt maybe they'd gotten too soft after a point (and maybe they did after this). Up to now I was only familiar with the preceding two albums, Fake Can Be Just as Good and Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons. Need to download.
