Just listened to...
Heroin and Your Veins, Nausea. Post-blues? Doom jazz? I don't know what genre they call themselves, but listening to Heroin and Your Veins is like drowning in black coffee and liquid nicotine. It's the music of dark urban nights, back alley murders, and rains that are just heavy enough to make the long trudge home uncomfortable. Fantastic. AND Flying Lotus, Until The Quiet Comes. It's kind of obligatory. On first listen I enjoyed it quite a bit, a lot of heavy bass in the mix and good percussion, lots and lots of complex beats. Seems like it'll be a grower. AND Brian Harnetty & Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Silent City. Found sounds, ancient recordings from the Appalachian Archives, sparse, almost random drumming, snatches of conversation, half-remembered dreams, abandoned shacks once used for nefarious purposes, small towns with small people who have small dreams, mist and thunder, earth and sky, moonlit trysts... these are what I hear in this album. I listened to it twice in a row, and will listen to more in the coming weeks... it is incredibly quiet, but incredibly beautiful. I highly recommend.

i think i'm gonna have to check out this Heroin and Your Veins....sounds very interesting
AS IT IS so at midnight (although i had to wait till 4am) my most anticipated release of the year came out Sabbath Assembly - Ye Are Gods so a continuation of the first album...in which they simply do covers of the infamous 1960s death cult....The Process Church Of Final Judgement's....100s of songs for their Sabbath Assembly's (group therapy/sermons which were held at midnight above Process operated coffee shops) for those who may not know The Process was a death/doomsday cult which walked around major cities all over the world during the mid 60s to the late 70s....they created a form of psychological unity through the concept that Christ, Satan, Lucifer, and Jehovah were all different personalities of God and thus we carry all of these in us and should indulge in and worship them all....the end of the world is when Christ and Satan become one....Satan the destroyer and Christ the Judgement....groovy stuff i suggest you all look into it....they created and passed out amazing magazines full of music reviews, their scripture and crazy collage art work....during the summer of love while hippies were wandering around high on drugs and talking about peace and free love....they walked around in black robes with upside down crosses and their German Shepard's (apparently every ordained member had a German Shepard and they would go out with them in packs) preaching about the unity of Satan and Christ to bring forth the end to all that we know..... like i said....groovy stuff after hearing the first album i wondered if they would continue as they have literally 300+ songs to choose from....and was so happy to see that they had decided to release another album.....The Process has been an obsession of mine for well over 17 years and only in the last 6 or so has there been a boom about them both online and in music and books.....many others have release Process themed albums including Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV, Skinny Puppy, Electric Wizard....even Hunter S Thompson mentions them in at least four of his books so this album is a bit different than the first (Restored To One)....the first was really groovy psychedelic rock quite straight forward although the lyrics may really freak some people out.....they were literally 10 songs from the hymns The Process....this one goes a step forward and adds actual sermon speeches (put to audio by none other than Genesis P-Orridge) so the album as a whole is more like what an actually Sabbath Assembly would have been like.....which for me....is by far the most amazing thing i've heard in years (seriously i cannot explain how happy i am right now ) as an added and WONDERFUL addition to the album is founding member Timothy Wyllie reading an excerpt from the book called The Gods On War called Trancedence.....this is amazing and i highly suggest it for anyone here who has ever had interest in real fringe 60s culture and or anything involving the end of humanity SO BE IT |

Tame Impala - Lonerism (2012) This could very well be one of my albums of the year. The only thing is this should have been released at the start of the summer instead of autumn, this album would have been the perfect summer soundtrack (not that we get much of a summer here). Great stuff. Portico Quartet - Portico Quartet (2012) A group I'd been meaning to check out. This album is a very interesting blend of laid-back electronica, jazz and ambient and keeps your attention right until the end. It's mostly instrumental but there are guest vocals on one track. Ringo Deathstarr - Mauve (2012) Okay, these guys are now two full-length albums into their career and they really need to start finding an identity of their own, instead of recycling the leftovers from My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus and Mary Chain. Their debut album Colour Trip and the Sparkler compilation had a sense of energy and carefree fun that made up for their lack of originality, but here that energy is gone and we are left with a plodding and boring album. There are some interesting moments such as 'Brightest Star' and 'Nap Time' but it's not really enough.

Greatest Hits - Sly and the Family Stone 6- and 12-String Guitar - Leo Kottke EDIT: I forgot to add commentary. Been meaning to pick up a Sly album for a while now, went for a nice copy of Greatest Hits. Picked up the Leo Kottke record because the record store owner recommended it and, after he played it for me, it sounded pretty cool. |
