Yeah, I followed the concept, but the same thing is asked for in the Last Album You Bought thread. Anyways, nobody else seems to think it's redundant, and I'm not going to do anything about it, so there are no hard feelings.

Killer Mike - R.A.P. Music (2012 I remember listening to this a little while ago on Spotify and liking it, but for whatever reason I never picked it up. Fixed that last night, listened to it again, and now understand why everyone has been going nuts over it since it was released. Joey Bada$$ - 1999 (2012) Grabbed this shortly after it was released as well, but I don't think it made the trip from whatever Linux distro I was using at the time to my current one (I change them a lot). I'm actually starting to do some preliminary work on "Best of 2012" mixes so I'm trying to get caught up with some of the hip hop of 2012 that I've been missing out on. I still have a few outstanding albums though, so I can't really do anything official till... at least November. |

Pete, both of those are fantastic, but Mike's is much, much better. I loved 1999, but it's just a mixtape, and has too many moments where I just wasn't feeling it to be put into my personal Best Of 2012 list. Some of the songs are RIDICULOUSLY good... but some are just meh. Whatever. It's all subjective, that may just be me.
Mike's is just about perfect, though. Seriously. I think the only song that I don't absolutely love is "Anywhere But Here," and even that is still good.

On that note, El-P's Cancer for Cure was pretty damn awesome, too.

No hard feelings, mate. My response to your comment came off as snide and rude, but it wasn't meant that way. Best friends?

I'd say the main distinction between Last Album You Bought... and this thread is that, usually, you could be listening to some album you bought or downloaded months ago and decide to talk about it here.

Black Flag, Family Man. This is Black Flag's weirdest record, in my opinion. Mostly Henry Rollins spitting out abstract, angry poetry and three instrumentals at the end. The poetry is, for the most part, quite good. Very dark, sociopathic, nihilistic stuff. The instrumentals are probably my least favorite Black Flag songs to date. This album would have been better without their inclusion. This is probably my least favorite album from the kings of hardcore, but even at their worst, Black Flag is better than many other punk groups by miles. My favorite "song" off this album is definitely "Let The Fingers Do The Walking." Great piece of poetry. I would love to hear a remix with some beats in the background. Or I'd like to hear a hip hop song that samples the "chorus." It's perfectly suited to some heavy beats.

Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - Grow Fins (Rarities 65 - 82) not really the Holy Grail for us aficionados, but not too shabby, too much emphasis on "Trout Mask", though and most are alternate takes, not unreleased songs from Miles Davis:- The Complete Bitches Brew Sessions hardly that "essential" but the outtakes are nice performance-wise, i think these are Miles' best recorded live performances just got this - haven't heard them yet reacquisition a landmark in emo? |
