was thinking the other day that Jazz is a style I have never fully dove into. I neglected it for a long time... I like jazzy style playing in bands like NoMeansNo, Victims Family, Naked City and others... but never gave Jazz as a style its own chance. So I am getting myself into the style, so far have no recommendations from anyone.. just using Rate Your Music as a guide and taking in into my own hands. I got this album, "The Shape of Jazz to Come" by Ornette Coleman, as well as some Miles Davis and some Paul Chambers (saw it on the bio for Rob Wright of NoMeansNo, saying he is one of his inspirations to pick up a bass, so had to check it out at least). A little overwhelming of a style to just dive right into the deep end with, but whatever... I have done it with other styles as well.. usually goes the same way, get into a style, wanna check out more, and it leads to an addictive road of discovery. Knowing nothing of jazz, or what goes into it... it is different than say rock, punk, metal and those styles.... but I am liking it so far. At least I can "feel" it. So far I really like this album, and the

The Gaslight Anthem - Handwritten (2012) I'm a sucker for this band and I don't really know why. They're nothing groundbreaking, but they've put out consistently good albums that somehow manage to be nostalgic while also feeling new. I'm definitely not feeling this one as much as Sink or Swim or The '59 Sound, but there's definitely enough good on here to warrant a purchase. Basically if you're looking for an album to remind you of better days while delivering it in a way that doesn't feel artificial, you might want to give this one a try. If you're completely unfamiliar with the band then you definitely want to start with Sink or Swim and The '59 Sound. |

Hi everyone
last full album I bought a couple of weeks ago [ordered and shipped direct from the UK] was Foe by Man Without Country. Love it. I wanted to have a physical copy as opposed to just digital downloading it [altho after the release date, it also came with a d/load link] as I realised I hadnt bought a regular CD in ages. Love it comes with a lyrics booklet.
In the meantime, I have also been grabbing a few new releases thru itunes. Btw, im new, so a big hello to everyone here. |
