Metric - Synthetica (2012)
The follow-up to 2009's Fantasies. It doesn't seem to have quite the same focus and edge as its predecessor and occasionally slips into middle-of-the-road blandness. However 'Youth Without Youth', 'Breathing Underwater' and 'The Void' are cracking songs and show that they are still well capable of writing great pop songs. It might still grow on me.

Hypomanie - Calm Down, You Weren't Set On Fire (2012)
Some pretty decent post-rock from the Netherlands. These guys started out as a black metal band but now have their feet placed firmly in post-rock. There's some nice shoegazy textures here and there and they show some signs of their black metal past with the occasional blastbeat thrown in. 'Alissa Loves Perfume' and 'If Only The Seas Were Merciful' are impressive tracks but the album seems to be let down by the unremarkable last two tracks.
