A metal album, it's still great and influenced at least one of the greatest rock musicians ever. Last, Godsmack's IV and Metallica.

Mastodon - The Hunter (Deluxe Edition)

It's the same disc as what came out last year, but with an extra DVD with some videos and shenanigans. Why they didn't include the two bonus tracks? Dunno. I know some people consider it to be a weak album but I quite like it. Calling it a step back is not really accurate, but there's definitely a shift that makes this album feel more like the missing middle ground between Blood Mountain and Crack the Skye.

There's a fair amount of variety on the album, some great heavy tunes, some more straight ahead rock, trippy ambient psychedelia, but I found tracks like The Hunter and Creature Lives were long winded or completely out of place respectively (CL sounds exactly like Pink Floyd for the first minute or so).

The band's prog rock influence and shift is undeniable, there are a few points on the album that feel like some kind of quasi-TOOL / King Crimson mash-ups. That's not to say they can't rock like they used to though.

Also, for whatever reason, when you do a Google Image Search for 'Mastodon The Hunter' you end up with an old nude photo of Burt Reynolds from Cosmo as part of the early results.

Saw a group called Sweet Billy Pilgrim on newsnight reveiw last night and decidd to make them my band de jour so bought there new album from itunes but not before trying to download it for free via mp3ify. I'd downloaded one song but couldn't find the others on mp3ify so bought the album, I was going to buy one of their albums a/w today but wanted try and get one on mp3ify for free first before buying another one. Strangely enough the one I'd downloaded from mp3ify wouldn't download from itunes and it keeps saying the file is corrupted so I havn't got the full album 'cause the one I downloaded from mp3ify was a live version so i guess that serves me right from ripping music from mp3ify. I'm happy to buy music from small bands like SBP though 'cause it's one thing to rip Sting mp3's from mp3ify but it's another thing altogheter ripping mp3's from SBP for obvious reasons.

Pallbearer - Sorrow and Extinction
What is up with the recent influx in stoner/doom metal bands in Arkansas latley? Whatever it is the region is doing something right. Cause this is the best doom release of the year.

Mott Bonnott - Warm Fuzzies Vol. 1

(Sorry the picture is so big...I couldn't find a smaller one)
But this is a really fun EP, worth checking out for a light listen. It will just make you happy for at least 20 minutes, and that's always a good thing.
