Valtari - Fragments of a Nightmare (2012) It's pretty much just rehashed mid '90's melodic death metal ala Dark Tranquility or In Flames. Pretty predictable album, but it's still a listenable and even enjoyable one if you're already a fan of that type of sound. http://lgoat.com/i/news/Jeff_Loomis_...f_oblivion.jpg Jeff Loomis - Plains of Oblivion (2012) Jeff Loomis is one of those musicians who has a very distinct tone and thus makes him easy to spot, much like all the musicians from Nevermore. I was sad when I heard he and drummer Van Williams left the band last year, and with Warrel Dane's focus on a Sanctuary reunion/ new album it seems the band is done. That doesn't mean he can't make great music else where, and I really liked his 2008 solo album Zero Order Phase so I'm expecting good things from Plains of Oblivion (2012) http://www.thrashhits.com/wpress/wp-...ThrashHits.jpg Diablo Swing Orchestra - Pandora's Pinata (2012) Their first album was intriguing for a couple of songs, then just got kind of tedious. Their second album fixed many of the problems with the first, but was still not perfect. It seems that they've managed to find that balance between their gimmick (it being swing/jazz orchestrated metal) and something that can be fun to listen to all the way through. Not a moment is wasted on this album. |
Allo Darlin' - Europe
http://cdn.pastemagazine.com/www/art...jpg?1335181261 This is definitely going to be up there with my favorite albums of the year. It's so bright and joyful. A true indiepop album is hard to find these days, and this is definitely one of them. Makes me want to jump right back into my twee phase again. |

Silversun Pickups - Neck Of The Woods (2012) It's a poor-quality rip but it will do me until the album is released. I was a bit reluctant about this release but I must say I am pleasantly surprised with it. So far this sounds better than Swoon and the band sound very confident. There's also a feeling of sadness to the album which I find interesting. It seems like a step in the right direction for them. Quote:

White Lies- Ritual
http://www.clashmusic.com/files/imag...IES-RITUAL.JPG It's not bad, but nowhere near as good as their first album. |
Just downloaded this little masterpiece.

Downloaded: http://img.noiset.com/images/album/l...ver-15948.jpeg Lisa Germano - Geek the Girl (1994) Though technically slowcore/dream-pop I think theres a little too much aggression and frankly, it may be a little too terrifying at times to carry the characteristics of a genre or genres I indulge in for, generally, relaxation. A record about a girls tale of sexual maturity, abuse and fear among other things. It is not a fun record, to say the least. One of the tracks, "...a Psychopath", even includes the sampling of a genuine emergency call made as a woman struggles with an intruder. The result is horrifying. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg Ida - Ten Small Paces (1997) Slowcore/dream-pop with male-female harmonies. Sounds good enough to me. I have listened to it and I fell asleep. That, however, is not a negative review. I just need to listen to it again sometime to really judge it. On Vinyl http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_NYNOycJhGA...cred_heart.jpg Dio - Sacred Heart (1985) Cause it's Dio. 'Nuff said. On CD http://www.artrocker.tv/images/uploa...ke-Care700.jpg Explosions in the Sky - Take Care, Take Care, Take Care (2011) Supposedly a return to their roots of a slow, gentle build to epic greatness. Probably one of the first post-rock bands I heard and, while not the greatest, have still produced some wonderful music. The packaging and artwork is absolutely immaculate. Rather staggering actually, as the house opens up into a four-part gatefold with a huge fold out poster and a postcard with the tracklisting slotted away inside too. http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg http://www.audiobounty.com/wp-conten...09-300x300.jpg http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg All CDs i bought to replace digital versions today. |
