Got these CDs:
Jack White - Blunderbuss (2012) Pretty much everything you could like about Jack White packed into one killer album. Certainly better than the stuff he did with The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather. Richmond Fontaine - We Used To Think The Freeway Sounded Like a River (2009) A very enjoyable and laid-back alt-country album. Frontman Willy Vlautin's lyrics stand out in particular, he has a good down-to-earth storyteller quality to him. I also found a cassette copy of The Replacements' All Shook Down in excellent condition for only 50c.

Awesome album. Checkout Evil Empire if you like this. Similar schizoid Ska.
Recent buys: A highly original Metal band that are primarily a Death Metal band but they delve into Ambient, progressive and Black sounds too. A couple of the tracks on here are worryingly close to stadium dross a la Coldplay but overall it's a cracking Prog album a la Porcupine Tree with a more commercial bent. Had it for years on MP3 but been blasting it work and reminded myself (and a few others at work how good it is) so picked it up on CD. Downloaded: Early Dubstep meets Trip Hop. If you like Portishead you may like this. Seam - The Pace Is Glacial. 90's Polvo type of sound. Damn good. Like some bastard love child of Ian Curtis and Gary Numan but filled with retro joy.

Also, I really love that Bloc Party album too. They are a well known band, but I feel they are under appreciated in nerdy circles.

^^ Love that Anathema record, Jackhammer. I get what you mean with the "stadium dross" moments but I'm glad you like it. It's quite a beautiful record.
I got this today and I've only listened to it once through but quite enjoyed it. I get the feeling it can only get better with repeated listens. Seems as though it could be a slow-burner. Picked this up at their gig recently. I hadn't heard it going in but everything they played from it sounded great. I've now listened to it a few times and frankly it's a monster. Their best since The Big Black, in my opinion. I knew nothing about Jesse Sykes bar her contribution to the Sunn O)))/Boris collab 'Altar' and Americana/Alt-country is not something I'm at all well versed in. I loved this though. Stunning vocals and generally just a cracking, beautiful record. |

Yeah I only heard them for the first time this week but was really impressed and I will be checking out their other output. I have never heard any Codeine either! My 90's music knowledge is lacking in many departments due to being a new dad so music took a back seat between '94 and '99 especially.

Paradise Lost - Tragic Idol (2012) While I don't think they've put out anything quite as good as Draconian Times (1995) I still think they put out pretty consistent and listenable albums. Apparently Moonspell is putting out a new album next week too so it seems 2012 is a busy year for Gothic metal releases, which is nice because it's a genre that I really liked when I started getting into metal, but haven't paid much attention to in recent years. |

Evil Empire - Does This Genocide Make Me Look Sexy? Cheers to jackhammer for the link, really liking it so far. Also, I prefer Low End Theory Doc, but both albums are masterpieces.

Spoiler for cartoon nudity/gore:
Gronibard - Gronibard (2001) French grindcore. It's been sitting at my local music store for three years now and seeing as how they had absolutely nothing else worth picking up I decided to liberate this one and give it a nice home in the corner of my room to collect dust and be a target should someone break into my house again. |
