The new album seems much the same as the last, but I'll have to listen to it a few more times to develop a proper opinion on it.

There comes a point in time where I really can't be arsed listening to an album more than once unless I like it, or felt I missed the point. I don't think I need more than one listen for this one. I know I will always find it a pleasant experience, but not really that interesting.

There were only two songs that really stood out for me with the new Alcest album, the first one "Autre Temps" and the sixth one "Faiseurs De Mondes". The latter one really stuck out because as far as I can remember it was the only one that actually had any real noticeable metal influence in both the melody and vocals. Other than that I found it to be a little uninspired, but not totally unsurprising. I'm not the biggest fan of the emerging "Blackgaze" sound, it sounds pleasant enough but it really just doesn't do anything for me. I'll keep the album and revisit it over the year to see if it grows on me at all, but for now I'll have to say that I found it pretty underwhelming.

I actually wasn't too blown away by "Autre Temps" which I downloaded about a month ago, but the album is okay I guess. A lot of this atmospheric black metal/"blackgaze" or whatever you want to call it can pretty much sound the same if not done with that extra magic touch. On first listen Les Voyages De L'Âme didn't sound that different from similar stuff I've heard but I will give it time.

Downloaded Topography of the Lungs (1970) by Evan Parker, Derek Bailey, and Han Bennink. It's been on my to-listen-to list for months now, and I finally decided to look into it. I'm pretty excited... some of the best free improvisation artists all collaborating on one album.
