Rachael Yamagata - Elephants
A friend of mine on a social networking site pretty much demanded that I immediately check out this album and while admittedly the female singer/songwriter genre doesn't usually appeal to me, this album is progressively growing on me (banter for another thread, perhaps. Reminds a bit of Fiona Apple with greater depth and much better song arrangements, (sorry, that's about as close to an apt comparison as you're likely to get from me. It may not be all too accurate)

Woven Hand - Black of the Ink (2011)

Time to see if David Eugene Edwards can top an album like The Threshingfloor (2010) in little over a year.

New Wovenhand? Hot dawg!

edit: Nope, it's an anthology.

Quote:
After six groundbreaking longplay records under the name of Wovenhand, David Eugene Edwards –in conjunction with Glitterhouse Records – releases the synopsis of his work titled Black of the Ink. Oral history turns into written history. Black of the Ink is a 110 page hard-cover book that contains the complete lyrics of all Wovenhand records handwritten and illustrated by David Eugene Edwards himself. The elaborate work is accompanied by a six song CD – one song off each album in brand-new and exclusive versions.

Hmm, this seems like one of those things where you need the physical copy to really get the full experience. After listening to the album all the way through I do feel a little disappointed, but if I had the book I'd probably be singing a different tune.

So I was lurking in The Black Keys thread, not wanting to come out and tell anyone that I hadn't properly listened to a single Black Keys album; I mean what would everybody think? So I went with my instinct and checked out this precious gem and, I have to say, I can't stop listening to it.

Ah, know the feeling!
My first BK album as well and it's still an utter gem.
It's probably their best work, but please try all the other ones from Thickfreakness to Attack & Release, too. You Will like them.

Eitherway, now downloading:

Sort of electronica meets shoegaze.
I liked it a lot more than I thought I would.
