I'm pretty sure it actually was named after the Leonard Cohen album. I think I remember Justin Broadrick saying so in an interview I read with him.

Really?! This seriously makes my day.
I'm re-listening to the Cohen album right now and it makes sense.

Yup. Here's a source confirming it:

We aren't just cold, clinical machine-like characters. We want to meet people on every level. There's a lot of depth, and if we're talking about hate, then we're talking about love anyway. To us, there isn't really much dividing line on either extreme. Those are a lot of things I think Leonard Cohen was dealing with, those dualities, like love and hate meeting. There is a lot of love in our songs, but there is hate as well and it's really the examination of both. It covers all areas, all the emotional extremes that human beings are capable of dealing with. Hmmm interesting. I've never actually given Leonard Cohen a proper listen but I probably will get around to him soon.

Songs of Leonard Cohen, Songs from a Room and Songs of Love and Hate should be essential listening for any serious music fan.

A Great Big Pile Of Leaves - Have You Seen My Prefrontal Cortex?

Very good album, hard to pin down into one specific genre, which is one of the main reasons I like it so much.
