A couple of albums from the Wire list that caught my attention:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg Electric Eels - The Eyeball of Hell OK, the Wire list actually featured a single, but I got this compilation instead. One of those overlooked proto-punk, garage bands from the first part of the 70s I always wanted to hear. This is great, so raw and in many ways more punk than punk. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_b9v4WM7fPI...%281986%29.jpg Last Exit - Last Exit (1986) This is even better. Chaotic, energetic, noisy and yet groovy free jazz. I love it. After a couple of more listens this will end up in 'Albums you're digging thread'. And now something I haven't picked up from the Wire list, but Last Exit made me remember another unique jazz band (in different way) I've wanted to listen to for a very long time, but somehow never have (other than a few tracks here and there, mostly on the radio and at friends) http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg The Lounge Lizards - Lounge Lizards (1981) The first album by this New York jazz band that drew many influences from punk and no wave scene initially, as is evident on this album. Arto Lindsay from DNA played here. Still, when compared to James Chance and the Contortions this is a jazz record, no question. Later they developed in different directions and went through many line-up changes. Looking forward to hearing more of their stuff, as this is really good. |
