Yeah, I'm on the second track and it's kind of meh for me right now. Reminds me of Grizzly Bear, but folkier.
I could see it growing on me though. Baroque Pop and the indie folk scene kind of rubs me the wrong way, so I might end up not liking this album at all actually. We'll see. |

cold, wintery dark ambient with a bit of acoustic in there, warming things up like a crackling fire. neat combination.

Guys, where do you download your music from?
I use Google Blogsearch sometimes but these days it seems to be returning fewer and fewer results. And half of them end up being dead links or removed ones. :/ I try to buy as and when I can, though. Buying every damn thing would burn a huge hole in my pocket, so some downloading needs to happen. That said, I would gladly pay and download if the prices are reasonable. |

Amplifier - The Octopus This is their first album in 4 years and they've responded with this sprawling double album. Clocking in at just over 2 hours of music this is certainly a hugely ambitious space-rock album. I'm listening to it at the moment and so far my impressions are fairly positive, the music doesn't quite have the heavy guitar crunch of their first 2 albums but the band seem to have expanded their musical horizons a good bit. It will take a few more listens to determine whether this album is a stroke of genius or an exercise in over-ambitious self-indulgence.

Rudi Arapahoe - Echoes From One to Another ambient/neo classical/avant garde really, really tremendous. if you like ambient, don't miss this one.

some more from me, i've been checking out my last.fm recommendations which i have not done for many months.
Tripswitch - Geometry wonderfully smooth and mellow downtempo electronic Bushy - Hiya! more chill electronic goodness Bajka - In Wonderland if you've heard Bonobo's newest, you'll know Bajka's voice from tracks such as Days To Come and Walk In The Sky. this, her solo album, is a jazzy downtempo piece with a similar feel.

And it's NZ drone doom as well I've somehow avoided listening to them despite having one of their albums on my hard drive for a couple of years :/
Must get around to checking them out.
