From all the Sun Ra albums I've heard so far this one (two) was the easiest listening, it just flows and is quite playful and fun. As I understood, these albums are from his earlier, more conventional period.

Oh how right you are. Damn...that's what I'm doing once I'm off work today. I think I need to stop by my local record shop and pick up a new album for the occasion.

I've been really digging some acid jazz recently:

St. Germain - Tourist

Super chill...all I can really say. If you don't cream your pants with this, then go smoke something.

Xploding Plastix - Amateur Girlfriends Go Proskirt Agents

More experimental than most acid jazz, this stuff is highly addictive.

I wouldn't want to call St. Germain Jazz, but it's groovy .

He's not jazz...he is acid jazz, and if you go with the strict definition of jazz nothing besides strict jazz can be called jazz. It's just a label.

Edit: Balls...I thought I was in the Albums You're Digging thread. Oh well, I guess here it stays.

Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid (2010)

I heard the song "Dance or Die" on a friend's 2010 mixtape and finally connected the music to the name and decided it was time to check it out.

Qwel & Maker - So Be It (2009)

I've seen a few people I sometimes pretend to respect say some good things about this hip hop group's 2010 album Owl but I'll be buggered if I can't find it, so instead I decided to settle for this as my first introduction to the group.

Incise - Daily Methods (2010)

Another new hip hop face I have seen mentioned by people I sometimes pretend to respect, decided to give it a try.

'tis indeed. If you're up for it, get hold of this one next...

^ Doesn't get much better than that by my reckoning.
