Haven't been this excited about getting something since this girl called Sarah took her bra off for me when I was 14.

It's just Swans, not The Swans. They're one of my favorite bands, not sure if you'd like them or not. I've just discovered in this thread that at least one person considers them influential on post-rock but their music is all over the place stylistically. Their early stuff was slow, heavy and brutal, and that influence can be heard in bands like Godflesh and Neurosis. Later on they put out a lot of stuff with a folk influence mixed with industrial, psychedelia, noise and a bunch of other things.

Don't forget to mention all of Gira's music is emotionally draining, so if dark, bitter, and cynical music isn't your style then I would suggest taking it extremely slow.

The Depreciation Guild - In Her Gentle Jaws
I'm loving this band at the moment. This is their debut album originally released in 2007 and it's a really great mix of noise-pop and electronica. The songs are really great, with plenty of catchy hooks and melodies.

The Depreciation Guild - Spirit Youth
This is their second album which was released a couple of months ago. This album is less experimental and slightly more guitar and pop-orientated but it's just as good. There's some really memorable songs here.

Girls - Broken Dreams Club
If this 6 track EP is anything to go by, Girls' next album should be a real cracker. There is clear evidence here that the band have grown as songwriters and musicians, and therefore sound like a real serious proposition. They've also ditched the lo-fi production for a cleaner and crisper sound that works really well. There's also a darker and more melancholic tone on this EP which i really like.

Women - Public Strain
Looks like there's a bit of a pattern going on here involving the female gender (it wasn't intentional by the way). Anyway i downloaded this album because of the neat-looking album cover more so and i must say that this is an ok album. There's some similarities to Deerhunter on this album and a few songs remind me of Confusion Is Sex-era Sonic Youth, but there's nothing really impressive going on here. It might grow on me though with a few more listens.

Yeah, that too.

i'm honestly amazed at just how popular Swans have got in the past year.....it's certainly not a bad thing....to quote Gira "i think thats a good thing, i think i means that we as a society are headed straight to heaven." (from his spoken word album The Somniloguist and taken very much out of context :))

this does go to show a) the undeniable greatness of the music b)just what happens when you put yourself back into the spot light

as for "Soundtracks".....i do think it was an achievement for the band....especially considering when it was released and what was going on in popular and underground music at that time.....but at the same time it's mood music....versus an album like "Children Of God" which in my opinion really covers all aspects of what that band was/is and could be at any given point

Personally, I'd nominate Love of Life as their best album. It's them at their most emotionally raw and one of their most stylistically varied albums IMO.
