Trust me friend, Marrow of the Spirit is the strongest album they've done so far. Partly thanks to the new drummer methinks. :D

And seriously folks, check out Moon Safari's Lover's End at some point soon - it's a power-pop/progressive rock masterpiece!

Woods of Ypres - Pursuit of the Sun and Allure of the Earth

I haven't listened to it yet, but it was recommended to me given that I'm going through a bit of a metal phase the past few days. We shall see.

I liked their newest album so I decided I'd check out their most well-received one

^ *cough*Masterpiece*cough*

Recently downloaded Dmitri Shostakovich's String Quartets 1-13, performed by the Borodin Quartet. It's 5+ hours of the stuff, so I'm likely going to have to pick it apart piece by piece; it's exhilarating from what I've heard, though.

It's interesting to see that Soundtracks for the Blind has apparently come to be so well regarded over the years. It's a good album but far from their best IMO.

Tool - Ænima

I never really liked Tool, but this album is just amazing. The vocals are just exceptional, and the title song is growing to be one of my favorites.

Let me know how it sounds, I tried their latest album as my first experience with the band and it was poo, but they're Canadian so I don't wanna give up on them right away.

Anyhow I just completed my 16 Horsepower discography (at least studio album wise) with this:

16 Horsepower - Olden (2003)

Their final album

IMO, it has a lot to do with the 'Godspeed You! precursor' tags it got because of "The Sound" and "Helpless Child", two songs which really give GY!BE's imitations a run for their money. When GY!BE became the next big thing, I'm pretty sure people just ran to their influences. I'm pretty sure that's how I found out about it actually... But yeah, no matter how much I love Soundtracks, its popularity is pretty obvious - influence a band as renowned as GY!BE and you'll get noticed eventually.

How come you never really liked them? Is your mind changed. I love this album... definitely know what you mean about the exceptional vocals. Probably my favourite Tool vocals are all on this album.
