It's a classic hip hop album, but I don't think that all the songs are equally great. The first half of the album definitely outweighs the last.

Mos Def's Black on Both Sides definitely outshines Black Star. Talib Kweli's solo album's have been pretty hit or miss.

I find the beats to be pretty awesome but the rapping/lyrics to be kinda "meh". I think a friend is getting me the Mos Def album though so we'll see if it's better...

Deathspell Omega - Paracletus (2010)

'Tis quite interesting to hear these guys condense their delicious black metal gargantuity to tracks no longer than 6 minutes. The sheer brevity and focus here makes the 42 minute running time simply fall away as the snarling eats your brain. Beautiful!

Sweet fricken band. The atmospherics and dissonate riffing is quite appealing. If you haven't done so, check out Blut Aus Nord who are almost as good as Deathspell Omega.

New album from Japan's Sigh "Scene From Hell". Dark twisted symphonic black metal led by Mirai Kawashima visionary genius, and a battery of woodwind and string players. The music is presented in a carnival type backdrop where anything can come to the forefront, being a ripping guitar solo, saxophone blasts, or really infectious string arrangements, all done throughout relentless blastbeats. I don't know how all this disparate elements come together to create a whole, but they do. Stunning stuff. Below is new vocalist Dr. Mikannibal, laying down trax. ;)

Solefald - Norrøn Livskunst (2010)

These Norwegian weirdos are back again with their eclectic blend of black metal with jazz horns, male church choirs, Scandinavian instruments, and lyrics sung in various languages. Pretty much what I was hoping for and definitely one of the best avant-garde albums of the year.

Oh my god, this is probably the most brutal album I've ever heard... and that's not an understatement.

^^You seem to be on a Swans kick. Have you heard Filth yet, or Cop?

I have both, but I would say "Public Castration Is A Good Idea" is the best representation of the extreme era they had going. I really do like their older stuff as well as The Angels of Light, but I didn't care much for Jarboe's contributions for some reason.
