I found his YouTube excursions mildly impressive, so I'm interested to see what caliber of songwriter he is.

That's such a great album. It was my first exposure to that kind of thing and I think it's the best of it's kind. I don't like his other albums too much - can't stand his singing and I haven't gotten into other instrumental ones.

I just got Tortoise s/t

This is an album that I already have on CD and vinyl but I have no record player right now and my CD is apparently lost. All I've got now is the old, yellowing, empty digipak.

Seeing as it's shoegaze week i've decided to download these...

Les Discrets - Septembre et Ses Dernières Pensées
A really great album. A very nice combination of shoegaze and black metal influences in the vein of Alcest. It sounds really great on a pair of headphones and is just the album i need for these winter months.

Astrobrite - Crush
A nice noisy yet melodic album. Underneath the layers of guitar and distortion there's a real pop sensibility to this band with some nice soft dreamy vocal melodies. It's nothing out of this world but it'll certainly be a grower.

Airiel - The Battle Of Sealand
This album is really great. Despite a couple of filler tracks, when these guys hit their stride especially on 'Thinktank' and 'Stay', they really hit their stride. Their sound is just huge and full of texture, and the guitars towards the end of the last song 'The Big Mash-Up' literally sound like a jet-plane taking off. Nice.

edit; sorry to be a **** but I love Bossanova and am kinda sick about hearing that it's subpar. Dude wrote these songs as early as he wrote anything

I don't know how I ended up on your bad side, but I'm sorry for it.

If you like this you should check out the singer/guitarist's other band loveliescrushing. It's much more ambient and experimental, but with the same kind of shoegaze approach.

Have you heard their EP collection Winks and Kisses? The Battle of Sealand is great, but that collection is just phenomenal.
