Emotive hardcore probably.
I've never been able to get into them for some reason.

You mean the pink album?
Diary will always be my favourite by SDRE, but that's a damn fine album.
Yes, The Pink Album. Don't think there is an Emo song better than 8.

It's just a shame twats with eyeliner signing about things that have no real emotion are labelled "Emo" thus the genre having this stigma surrounding it.
What he said.

Technically it's emo, yeah (meaning emotive hardcore). Screamo is a term that came about about emo fragmented into several different variations. It's a retro-genre classification, in other words. Kind of like stuff similar to Brand New and SDRE is being labeled as emo pop sometimes, and original emo is called screamo or emocore (yeah, quite silly stuff...blame RYM users).

LP2/pink is also my favorite from SDRE.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

You like Modest Mouse though? Brand New remind me of them in some respects, longish wicked alt-rock, great lyrics etc.

So I think you'll enjoy them. American Football is Mike Kinsella's best work, fool.

Anyway, the last album I downloaded...

Windir - Arntor (1999)

Moonsorrow - Kivenkantaja (2003)

Hypnos 69 - Legacy (2010)

The first two are albums I've been meaning to get into for awhile now, but for some reason have always eluded me. The third is a progressive/ psychedelic rock album from this year that I've heard good things about. I'm just trying to get caught up before I'm assaulted next week with 5 new releases, 3 of which are on the 9th and two on the 8th. If I thought 2010 up till now had some good metal releases, November is going to rock my world.

I do, but if you remember back to what Modest Mouse I like the best it contains mostly short songs, Lonesome being the exception because it's so damn good. And it's not necessarily the lyrics that draws me in about Modest Mouse. I'm not exactly sure what it is, to be honest...

You should feel the same about The Devil & God, it isn't that long, it's like 45-50 minues long. One of my favourites, you should enjoy it.

American football is more honest, more sincere, more emotional than anything else Mike Kinsella has done. Beautiful melodies and a great sense of pain embodied in the music as well as the lyrics - not "slow ass-shit", by far the best thing he's ever done.

Swans - My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope To the Sky

^ The new Swans album which I've heard much good word of and that I'm gonna ramble about for my uni's paper.

The Blasters - American Music

^ And the old rockabilly/americana classic that I lost with hundreds other albums when my old hard drive crashed a couple of years back.

Man VF what the hell is with your total aversion to anything over 40 minutes? It seems like every time someone posts about an album you don't like one of the reasons is that it's too long.

Some of my all-time favorites are more than 40 minutes, but the majority of the time I find myself only really liking like six songs and I personally feel that most albums are too long. Ideally in perfect V&F land music would be released in a form somewhere between an EP and a LP...

edit: and if the song is going to be more than four minutes, it better have some sick instrumental jamming going on because otherwise it is just repeating the hook too much...
