Just started listening. It's a lot like Sufjan Stevens, maybe more rock oriented. Lovely melodies though.

Squarepusher Presents Shobaleader One: d’Demonstrator

As a rule I normally don't like autotune but two songs in I'm really liking this album.

Eternal Tears of Sorrow - A Virgin and a Whore (1998)

A mix of symphonic metal and melodic death metal. From what I've read their later stuff is better, but I want to hear what this band sounded like in the early days.

In Vain - The Latter Rain (2007)

About the closest you can get to sounding like Blackwater Park/ Deliverance era Opeth without completely ripping them off. If you have listened to an Opeth album then you owe it to yourself to check out this band.

It's not autotune, it's vocoder. It just happens that autotune abuse sounds like a vocoder.

I have to say the samples for this album turn me off in a big way. I liked occasional vocoder use in the past, but come on...it's 2010, I'm sick and tired of hearing autotuned bullshit, why put out an album with a ton of vocoder effects that sounds like the latest craze in autotune? I'm going to download this at some point, but I'm expecting it to get on my nerves before the first song is even over. Too bad really because he has been one of my favorite musicians for a while.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

speaking of which, whatever happened to the classic robot vocoder that doesn't sound like autotune? I'd like to hear more of that.

5:5 years of hyperdub. Cracking compilation showing the full gamut of Dubstep with Trip Hop and Massive Attack style moodiness. Compiled by Kode 9 too. Quality.

Hmm. Not sure yet. Sounds a little too formulaic but I have only checked out the 'Metallic' section.

If you can get past the vocoder (which is easier said than done) it's actually not a bad album. I would have enjoyed it way more if it were an instrumental though.

I believe so, yes. I think most vocal effects are done with a vocoder. It's only in the past what, 5 or 10 years, that autotune has become commonplace in pop music and then used for that crap effect.

Sounds alright in that song though...and according to the info on the YouTube page, it's from 1999. Forgiveable.

Oh yes. It's a classic. Ferry Corsten was a monster back then.
