Well, you did skip two albums when going from Clarence Park to Turning Dragon. Clark does not stagnate.

Gavin Friday - Each Man Kills the Thing He Loves Listening to it now I'm actually enjoying this much more than I ever liked an album by The Virgin Prunes. The title track is magnificent.

There's traces of them there but it seems more refined & song orientated and musically a lot more ambitious.
It's like comparing a Bad Seeds album to a Birthday Party album if that makes any sense.
