They used to be terrible Nu - Rock / nu - metal crap, but IMO, they are growing out of that and getting better. Some folks are likely to disagree with me, but I think this is the case...

Linkin Park started off in the Nu Metal/ Rap Rock trend of the early '00's and kind of just sat out the middle half of the last decade. Their debut album Hybrid Theory came out around this time ten years ago (Jesus H. Christ!) and did really well on the charts and affected Suburban white boys like crazy. Had just enough hip hop in it to tap that market, but had enough white guys and distorted guitars to hook the hard rock radio market. They did a follow up album in '03 entitled Meteora that had something like 6 singles, each one whinier than the next that also did really well hooking the urban music demographic and suburban angry white guy demographic. In between their debut and sophomore albums they released some remix album that I never bothered with, but features song titles like "Rnw@y" and "P5hng Me A*wy" so I figured I wasn't missing much. They put out an album mashup of their music and some of Jay-Z's stuff in 2004 to capitalize on that year as well, but after that they were quiet and completely fell off my radar. Apparently they put out an album in 2007 but at that point I was completely past giving a shit and yeah, they put out something this year apparently. It's kind of funny really, they really dominated the radio charts in the early half of the last decade but really fell off during the middle half, which is when a lot of the post-punk revival bands began to get popular. |
