FETCHER. 09-07-2010 11:24 AM

NSYNC haha, I remember hearing about them. But I was never "blessed" with any of their music.

My Bloody Valentine - Isn't Anything (1988)

It's kind of strange being able to hear what Kevin Shields is actually saying. In a way the album kind of reminds me of Tweez by Slint. Released around the same time, very difference from the more popular sophomore album that coincidentally is the last thing they release in 1991.

Are you a fan at all of Loveless?

Haven't listened to it much. Impressed with the production value some songs are instant jams for me right now. Might do an album review on it...been about two years since I've made one on this forum.

That is out now? Oh hell yes...I've been waiting for this one. Skeletal Lamping was so damn good. Of Montreal have had such a string of great albums, I was nervous False Priest might be where they run out of ideas.

sidewinder 09-07-2010 02:24 PM

I've only played Skeletal Lamping once from start to finish and have heard some of the songs more than that via shuffle, but I haven't found it to be nearly as good as the 3 before it. I hope I like this one more.

It was a grower for me. At first it was a complete disappointment, especially compared to Hissing Fauna. It was way too schizophrenic. Kevin Barnes seriously was off his adderol or something. After kind of seeing where he was coming from and being used to the sporadic changes I got really into it. I do hope False Priest is more consistent, though...I don't really want something that is all over the place again. Give me something like Satanic Panic or the Sunlandic Twins, please.

I guess it could be that, but also the lyrics annoy me a bit.

Alright I downloaded quite a bit of stuff over the weekend. I shall now present said acquisitions to thee.

Karsten Pflum - Nemo Loon EP

http://www.adnoiseam.net/images/stor...30-b-500px.jpg

Karsten's take on dubstep. 4 very good tracks that are recognizeable as dubstep but not cliche at all.

This Town Needs Guns / Cats and Cats and Cats - Split

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...-L._SS500_.jpg

Two bands I've recently started listening to, join forces for a split LP. 8 tracks, 4 by each band.

White Car - White Car EP

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...DL._SS500_.jpg

Debut EP from Chicago-based industrial dance/EBM revival band. First two track are very mediocre, but the 3rd is pretty good and the 4th excellent (The Bridge). Sounds like Cabaret Voltaire at their most accessible. Hopefully they'll continue in the direction of that track on future releases.

Airliner - None

http://bandcamp.com/files/29/16/2916060891-1.jpg

New release from Seth Haley, aka Com Truise and Sarin Sunday. Played it this morning, fits right in with the other releases I've heard from him, without sounding the same. Nostalgic and chill synth funk/IDM/whatever.

Weekend acquisitions continued:

Anodyne - Corrosion

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...oL._SS500_.jpg

IDM. Nothing to say yet, haven't heard it and don't know any background info on it. Except that they recently released a remix EP with a remix by Autechre and one by The Black Dog (former collaborators with Plaid).

Benoit Pioulard - Lasted

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...6L._SS500_.jpg

I picked up on this from a premature "best of 2010" list, don't really know much about it. Sounded like indie/singer-songwriter but also electronic.

Growing - Pumps!

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...1L._SS500_.jpg

Sounds like a very wacky and experimental electronic album. Again, picked it up from a premature "best of 2010" list.

Oval - Oh

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...gL._SS500_.jpg

Electronic album on the Thrill Jokey label (home of Tortoise and Mouse on Mars to name a few). Don't know much else, but samples were appealing.
