If you find it hard to get into that album, don't give up on good ol Richie. Go check out his EP Come to Daddy. Much more accessible, in my opinion.

MC Frontalot - Nerdcore Rising (2005) I have a soft spot for nerdcore because I am a geek and I enjoy hip hop, so combining the two seems like a win situation. I was always weary around Frontalot though because from his appearance it's easy to think that his stuff is more image based and the lyrics would be pretty hollow rap about Star Wars or something. How wrong was I! While there definitely are elements of that kind of song writing present, there are a lot of allusions and references that only a true geek would catch onto. The song "Goth Girls" for example really speaks to not only me, but a few other geeks I know who have this infatuation with goth girls, yet always come up short because they only want to date other goths. It's an interesting look at two sub cultures that share many parallels yet vast differences in the standard attire create a needless gap. Great album is all I can say. |

Alejandro Escovedo- Street Songs Of Love
Definitely the most old school sounding rock album I've heard this year. And that's a good thing

I've never been to a nerdcore show but I have no reason to believe they'd be very good. The nerdcore ethic is very DIY and it is aimed for the nerd/geek audience so non-fans would likely be bored. A lot of the nerdcore rappers do most of their stuff in the studio (which is most likely their bedroom), where they have a lot of control and can play and tweak with the sound till it's perfect, but when faced with a live audience the experience may suffer from the studio perfection. There's also the chance that MC Frontalot isn't good live.
Anyhow I just downloaded this little baby: The Seatbelts - Cowboy Bebop Music from the amazing anime series, full of '40's and '50's bebop jazz and early '60's rock. |
