Well the day I walk into a club & have some cute girl in a short skirt dancing sexily next to me to either Todd Rungren or King Crimson i`ll say all pop is worthless.
OK ? ![]()

buy a hooker, the unanimous opinion here is that on the whole modern mainstream pop is disposable, i don't knock people for listening to it and if there's a thread on pop artists i TRY and stear clear of posting in them.
but when we have 15 pop chanels on sky and 3 rock channels, none of which EVER play anything worth listening to, then in the words of mullet man modern pop is just "a clog in the ****ter" (however mullet man was refering to younger angry pop rock bands such as sum41) so yeah. there's moleys two cents. |

Why would I want a hooker to dance with someone?

in some aspects of your arguement i actually agree with you hiu. Some people will openly slag off mainstream pop for being disposable, thoughtless and untalented while they absolutely worship bands like the kooks (thats not a dig at you hobo), it all seems slightly hypocritical to me.

But The Kooks aren't disposable and talentless twats. They get up and perform the songs they are paid to perform, they don't just stand there moving their lips to their CD being played in the background. Ashlee Simpson can't sing, can't perform her own songs and isn't even good at what mainstream pop bases itself on, good looking women. She looks like a transvestite.

the kooks are in essence a mainstream pop band. their music is accesable to a wide audience - young and old. their lyrical content is socio-freindly. their image is manufactured to fit into the new fashion trends. their songs are simplistic.
And not all mainstream pop stars mime. some of them actually have ok voices - which is more than i can say for Luke Pritchard. |

Yes, The Kooks are Pop. But they are good Pop. Madonna is good Pop. Even though I don't like Madonna, she goes out and works her arse off and performs the songs she is paid money to. Kelly Clarkson also falls into that category. Ashlee Simpson, Pussycat Dolls and the like are not good Pop. They have nothing in the way of talent, especially Ashlee Simpson. She can't even redeem herself with her looks.

You think a child cares if someone wrote the song or not when they dance to it when it comes on the radio? You think someone cares if someone lip synchs the songs when they play on TV if you`re dancing to it in a club? It`s supposed to be light , sugary & disposable thats the point. It`s not supposed to get any other reaction out of you than to make you want to dance to it.If you`re judging pop music in the same way you judge somebody like Led Zeppelin or whatever then you`re totally missing the point of it.
