And that reminds me-miming. In my opinion miming should be against the law. They can just get away with performing in a concert that people have paid money to see and lip synch through it. That's not what music is about. For how much these supposed 'artists' get paid, you would expect them to do it properly and not rip off their fans. The reason they do it is because if they performed live they wouldn't be able to have none of the technical wizardry that makes them sound at least average in the recording studio. If they can't sing without the help of a magical machine then they shouldn't be in the business, like Merkaba said, taking up attention that real bands could have. |

It`s because half this forum is made up of teenagers still going through their rebellious phase. The type of person who thinks if it`s not metal/emo/punk/rock then it must be rubbish.
Pop has always been disposable , thats it`s nature. There`s no use complaining about it. The way that your average classic rock fan looks down on someone like Shakira is no different to the way that jazz snobs looked down on people like Elvis in the 1950s.Pop isn`t meant to last, thats why fashions in pop come & go so quickly. It`s not meant to be deep , it`s not meant to be clever. It`s about having a good time for 3 minutes in the present day and then forgetting about it. I like pop & quite honestly I don`t care what anyone says.

I can see your point to some degree, but did you just compare Elvis Presley to Shakira?
And if you consider me a classic rock elitist, then fine... Though i listen to a lot of modern music, Brian Wilson qualifies as pop, right?.. Ok... He's not that modern. But seriously, i find new bands all the time (Sigur Ros, Mars Volta, Arcade Fire, etc)... I'm just a sucker for old stuff, thats all... Though a real classic rock fan would be someone who likes Journey. Ewwwww. |

I was saying the musical snobbery towards them was the same

Thing is, i just find nothing redeeming about her music, i'm sure you'll find that funny coming from a guy who likes a bunch of old fart bands everyone here hates... But meh, if i want to listen to some enjoyable pop.... I'll play some Todd Rundgren instead.

Well the day I walk into a club & have some cute girl in a short skirt dancing sexily next to me to either Todd Rungren or King Crimson i`ll say all pop is worthless.
OK ?

buy a hooker, the unanimous opinion here is that on the whole modern mainstream pop is disposable, i don't knock people for listening to it and if there's a thread on pop artists i TRY and stear clear of posting in them.
but when we have 15 pop chanels on sky and 3 rock channels, none of which EVER play anything worth listening to, then in the words of mullet man modern pop is just "a clog in the ****ter" (however mullet man was refering to younger angry pop rock bands such as sum41) so yeah. there's moleys two cents. |

Why would I want a hooker to dance with someone?

in some aspects of your arguement i actually agree with you hiu. Some people will openly slag off mainstream pop for being disposable, thoughtless and untalented while they absolutely worship bands like the kooks (thats not a dig at you hobo), it all seems slightly hypocritical to me.
