Hard to explain... I'm more into jazz, soul and country music... I admire blues a lot, but i only finding myself listening to certain artists... I love Robert Johnson though. |

Yeah punk is not really about emotion, if it is, its almost non-existant. Punk is a boat load of image and approach. Blues is the same chord because the emotion and sentiment is what matter, punk is three chords because to know any more would be selling out.

Thats not really true at all.... I know a good deal of punk bands who use a more complex variety of chords... On a lot of songs The Minutemen and Dead Kennedys use more than 3 chords, as did Television and other early punk bands, who even displayed amounts of technical ability, if not on the same level as say, Deep Purple... When people think punk, they think The Ramones, simple, silly 3 chord bubblepop songs with a lot of handclaps and "1 2 3 4"... In contrast, a lot of other punk at the time was very different... Bands like The Replacements for example, had a very emotionally driven style, same goes for Black Flag, Husker Du, The Wipers and several others. |

I didn't realise setting up a band in a garage, belting out aggression and angst is all image and no emotion. I guess they just make the music intense because they want a workout then.

^ Nah, that's metal, punk bands tend to be more sincere.
