Neu! - 1
Kraftwerk - 0 I'm going to go with Neu!'s debut... As enjoyable as Autobahn is... its overall sound was heavily influenced by what Neu! was doing at the time, and it really doesn't hold my attention as much as the other album does. There's also an element of cheesiness in the title track... basically what they did was take somewhat of a Stockhausen approach to electronic music composition by drawing from the sounds around them (in this case... driving their car). Except... they did it in a more blatantly obvious (and boring) manner. Then there is Neu!'s album... you can just hear the influence Neu had on future musicians... genres ranging from motorik to post-rock and ambient to industrial music to post-punk to noise and noise rock... Take away it's influence, though, and it's still amazing, incredibly atmospheric, and magical... it's like Iggy Pop said... they managed to make a rock album devoid of any blues influence and ended up with a kind of "pastoral psychedelicism." |

ok i actually got both Neu! 72 and 75
Neu! 75 Pleasant enough, but a bit sedentary. Until "Hero" comes along, and it's Can-ish time. Doesn't have Hallogallo, so points are docked for that. Autobahn Meh! The title track is the only good thing about this, the rest are for testing hi-fis in 1974. As a "motorik" track, it's hardly as good as Hallogallo, and the version on "The Mix" is miles better, except it omits "veeeeeeehhhhhhrrrrr ffaaaaaaaarrrrrrnnnn auf der ooooooootooooooobaaaaaaahn". If Radioactivity was chosen, tougher call. If Trans Europe Express, no contest. So:- Neu! - 4 Kraftwerk- 0 edit - silly me! the nominated album is 72, so uh the voting still stands |

Have listened to the Neu album and despite not appealing to me as much as say a Can album, its still a very solid album and I`m now looking forward to listening to their other two albums. I listened to the Kraftwerk album again and have to say I agree with what others have said and it was a disappointment this time around, the songs are good in essence but in general each song fails to sustain itself as a really interesting listen. Also Kraftwerk do sound kind of dated whereas the Neu album sounded timeless.
With all this interest in Krautrock I might start listening to Amon Duul again! Neu 5 Kraftwerk 0 |

I appreciate Kraftwerk but I find them quite boring unfortunately. They have a very cold sound for me whereas I prefer a slightly warmer, dreamlike quality for my Krautrock so:
Neu - 1 Kraftwerk - 0 Now if it was Manuel Gottsching, Klaus Schulze, Harmonia or Gila against each other then I would be in a right pickle.
