Soft Machine. Miles Davis is somebody I respect immensely, and albums such as Bitches Brew are incredible, but Soft Machine just blow me away. I prefer Volume I to Third, and that's saying something - because Third is insanely good. One of the most inventive Jazz Fusion albums I've heard.

It hasn't been until recently that I have mustered up some (or should I say a lot of...) respect for Mr. Davis, and one of the albums I decided to look into was this one (as well as Bitches Brew). It's among one of the first albums (if not the first) to exhibit that jazz-fusion sound we all know and love. Unfortunately... Soft Machine's Third is a fucking masterpiece, and the moment that semi-spastic, atonal Lowrey organ kicks in on the first track, my entire body is engulfed in goosebumps (and continues to do so throughout the rest of the album).
Anyways... fuck it. I can't choose. (Sorry for wasting your time). |

I know the early Soft Machine albums quite well and always liked their pivotal Canterbury image and prog sound heavily infused with jazz. I was always a fan of their second album and also always liked Third despite the fact that I`m not a big fan of instrumental albums (I know there is one song on it sung by Robert Wyatt) but its really an instrumental piece. My knowledge of Miles Davis is embarrassingly bad, so I decided to listen to the Miles Davis album for the first time and relisten to Third. Since these were jazz fusion albums these are what I was listening for. Have to say that the Soft Machine album is a classic still, but the Miles Davis album almost feels like a live recording and that you are sitting in with the musicians and you can feel the jazz running through your veins, based on pure authenticity my vote goes to Miles.

Miles Davis wins 3-2. Next up thanks to Bob are these two acclaimed alternative rock albums from 1991. Again take a few words explaining your choice.

really have no interest in Ned's Atomic Dustbin
should have nominated The Soup Dragons, BMX Bandits, The Charlatans Uk or The Inspiral Carpets so by apathy alone, Teenage Fanclub - 1 Ned - 0 |

Not a fan of the Ned`s Atomic Dustbin album and I always remember the Teenage Fanclub album, as this I remember beat Nevermind as best album of 1991 in a well known UK music magazine (can`t remember which one though) Despite not being as good as the Nirvana album, its still a great album that I listen to from time to time.

When theses albums came out I loved both....and hostestly if I had been asked this then I would have probably gone ned's atomic dustbin....but I have to say that the teenage fanclub album has a much more lasting effect....if a song comes up in random I tend to stop and listen to the whole album.....whereas the ned's album is really nothing more than a trip down memory lane
Teenage fanclub 3 Dustbin 0 ....I chose these two bands because they were important albums for that year and both from Scotland.....I remember Dave Kendal saying this was the begining of the scotish invasion |

It doesn`t look like there will be anymore votes here so Teenafe Fanclub win 3-0. Next up courtesy of Jack Pat are these two krautrock/electronica albums by two of the genres defining artists. Again take a few words explaining your choice.
