But as for this battle... I think the Who still win it. I've never been the biggest Hendrix fan, and Gears does sound pretty dated. Cream - 2 Jimi Hendrix - 1 The Who - 2 |

Jimi by miles. Cream is solid, Who has some good songs, but AYE has some absolutely great stuff on it.

Are you Experienced is still one of my favorites. A great mind bending album with guitar playing that is out of this world. Tommy is a decent rock opera, but never really impressed me by it. Just a few decent songs that tell an interesting story. And Cream is pretty good, but there material on Disraieli Gears still isn't as good as AYE. The material on there is comparable to Hendrix, but not the same and a little bit safer.

As several people have stated Disreali Gears is the best Cream album and despite being a classic does have a very dated feel about it. Tommy in this battle is let down by the fact that its a concept album and therefore is going to have some weaker pieces on it linking the story and probably would do far better in a concept album battle, especially since its still a classic album. Hendrix wins this for me no contest by taking the blueprint of the Cream sound and reaching the giddy heights on AYE? The Hendrix albums AYE? and Electric Ladyland are the stuff of rock legend that few rock artists will ever aspire to these heights. Both of those albums easily would make a top 20 list of the greatest albums of all time.

Hendrix takes this battle 4-3-2. Next up thanks to Electrophonic Tonic are these two progressive/jazz fusion albums which rank amongst the best of each artist. Again take a few words explaining your choice.

The first 4 minutes of the track 'In a Silent Way' is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard. It's a great example of really early ambient music.
However, I like my fusion a little more abrasive. Such as Mahavishnu Orchestra, or Miles' Tribute to Jack Johnson. Third fits the abrasive part perfectly. Just listen to the first 2 minutes of the album. If I made this Jack Johnson vs Third... I would probably have to flip a coin. But against In a Silent Way, it's Third for me.
