Before I listen to Can (i'm going for coffee right now), is Krautrock still made? Or was this a 70's thing? (or whenever)

I'm listening to this song and I'm not sure how its so wildly different than much of what was made in England and America at the time.
So Kraut Rock = classic rock in German?
